Chapter 7

As I stepped out of the building, the cool evening air of early autumn washed over me, carrying the faint, soothing scent of unknown blossoms from the roadside flowerbeds.

I took deep gulps of air, but that cloying mix of perfume and milk still lingered in my lungs. It almost made me puke.

I didn't look back.

Step by step, my high heels tapped against the hard pavement, each click ringing out crisp and lonely.

My body felt weightless, as if I were walking on cotton.

Everything that just happened in there, the ruthless way I tore up the ultrasound…
