Chapter 6
"Come on, don't be mad. With a name as soft and cute as Little Fiona, how come your temper's like a firecracker?" he teased.
I pushed him away, impatiently.
"Seriously, I told you I'm not mad. Are you deaf or something?" I snapped.
Lucas's face darkened as I pushed him away.
"Do you always have to rub it in when you're right?" he snapped.
"Alright, whatever! Let's call off the engagement then!" he yelled.
He shouted.
Then he grabbed Mia, who had come running out after him, and stormed off in a huff.
I didn't even look back.
I slid into the car without a second thought.
Inside the car, my parents looked at me, clearly wanting to say something but holding back.
I shrugged. "I'm fine."
Honestly, I wasn't sad at all.
After letting go, I just felt lighter.
All I felt was relief.
My mom gently patted my head and suggested, "Since you don't have to start school until the end of the month, why don't we take a graduation trip out to the grasslands?"
"Since you don't have to start school until the end of the month, why not go on a graduation trip to the grasslands?"
My dad was all for it.
We jumped right into action.
That very day, we packed our bags and hit the road.
On the road, I stumbled across Lucas's post on my feed.
It was a photo of him and Mia at Summerville Food Avenue.
The caption: [Catching up on the fireworks we missed. Finally, everything's wrapped up.]
I stared at the post for a few seconds.
Then it hit me.
I never got around to blocking him last time.
I clicked on his profile.
Blocked him.
Confirmed.
After more than two weeks on the road and a week chilling at home, it was finally time to go.
Finally, it was time to leave.
My parents drove me to the airport themselves.
Right before my flight, I got a few texts from an unknown number.
[Little Fiona, did you seriously block me? Hurry up and unblock me!
[I heard your school let out early. I got permission from my advisor and I'll be back by noon. You've always wanted to go to the grasslands, right? How about we go together for the holiday? I swear, Mia won't tag along this time!
[I messed up, Little Fiona. Forgive your Luke, okay?]
All I know is, regret that comes too late is worthless.
I didn't reply. I just turned off my phone.
From here on out, those from the past don't need to look back. The road ahead is smooth sailing.
Lucas got out of the car and headed straight for the Grant Residence.
He was on edge, feeling a mix of frustration and impatience.
Fiona might have acted all high and mighty, but she'd always been glued to him, and been his little shadow since they were kids.
Everyone was jealous, always saying Fiona acted special only around him.
He always got a kick out of that.
But now, Fiona hadn't spoken to him in almost a month.
He rang the doorbell for ages.
Finally, someone opened the door.
As soon as Aunt Sophie saw him, her expression soured, and she tried to slam the door shut.
Lucas quickly stuck his hand out to block it, almost got his hand slammed in the door.
But he didn't even flinch, managing a fawning smile.
"Aunt Sophie, is Fiona home?" he asked.
"She's not here!" Aunt Sophie snapped.
"Is she out somewhere? Can I wait for her inside?" Lucas asked.
"No need to wait. Fiona won't be around anytime soon," Aunt Sophie said, still looking annoyed.
Aunt Sophie still looked annoyed.
"She's still at school?" Lucas's mind went blank for a second.
Aunt Sophie raised her voice, clearly irritated. "I told you, Fiona's gone abroad. She's not coming back!"
