Chapter 2
In the railway station.
Lucas looked annoyed as Mia dragged him along behind me.
He kept making pointed remarks at Mia, but was really throwing shade at me. "Why are you insisting on coming along? She's grown up now. She can get home by herself, can't she?"
"Nope. I need to make sure Ms. Fiona gets home safe. Anyway, classes don't start until next week, so I might as well stick around." Mia said.
"Tsk, don't come whining later if you miss out on all the food."
I didn't own this place.
I couldn't stop them from tagging along.
But I had got legs. I can walk away from them.
As soon as the train arrived, I quickly made my way to the nearest car.
I slipped into the closest carriage without looking back.
After finally finding a seat, I was just about to sit down when I ran into Lucas and Mia again.
As soon as Mia saw me, she sat bolt upright. "Little Fiona, is this your seat?"
Before I could even answer, she nervously stood up, pulled out a wet wipe, and started carefully wiping down the seat for me.
Lucas smirked at me, his tone full of mischief. "Look at your personal maid. Just see how devoted she is to you. I never get the VIP treatment like that."
Mia shot him a glare, her voice serious. "That's different. Little Fiona helped me out. She's the one who changed my life!"
"Yeah, yeah, but all those nights I stayed up tutoring you, I don't get any credit for that?"
The two of them started bickering again, going back and forth.
Yeah, that was true.
It really was different.
With Lucas, Mia would act all cute and throw little tantrums.
But whenever she was around me, she'd always get all shy and nervous.
Anyone who didn't know what was really going on would just assume I was bullying her.
Lucas always said I was acting all superior, and because of that, we'd get into it a lot.
Sometimes I'd actually start wondering if maybe I was the one messing things up.
All these years, Mia always matched whatever I had, food, clothes, even daily essentials, just to keep up with me.
Whenever I bought a designer bag, a dress, or a pair of shoes, she'd get the exact same one.
Until today.
I handed my suitcase to a struggling freshman who looked like she really needed it.
When she saw all the luxury items and designer goods inside, she was so shocked she kept waving her hands, trying to refuse.
It took a lot of convincing before she finally accepted, tears in her eyes. She kept thanking me nonstop, even asking for my address and promising she'd work at Grant Enterprises someday to pay me back.
That was when it finally hit me.
People really aren't all the same.
Everyone else I helped would practically consider me as their sister, but Mia always acted like I was some kind of tyrant.
If she really thought of me as her savior, then maybe I should just let her treat me like one.
Guess I might as well sit back and enjoy her trying to pay me back.
"Fiona, are you really treating Mia like your personal maid? Aren't you worried people will call you a total princess?" Lucas teased from the side.
Before, hearing that would've made me flustered, and I'd rush to stop Mia from fussing over me.
But now, I just gave him a glance and looked at Mia, my voice calm and indifferent. "Wipe the armrest too."
Mia stared at me, her eyes wide with disbelief, as if she couldn't process what I'd just said.
We stood there in tense silence for a while, but eventually, with her eyes turning red and her face burning with embarrassment, Mia wiped down the armrest, barely holding back tears.
I didn't spare her another glance, my attitude icy and indifferent.
I also paid no attention to Lucas, who looked completely stunned, speechless at my reaction.
Without another word, I sat down, slipped on my headphones, and closed my eyes.
I shut out the world, finally letting myself rest.
