Charles never came home last night.

There was not a single call, not a single text from him.

I sat on the living room couch, watching the night turn into morning, my heart sinking bit by bit. Suddenly, my phone lit up with a message from an unknown number. I clicked it, and the words left me stunned.

It was from Sophie. [Evelyn, Charles was really tired last night, so I didn't wake him up to let you know he's okay. Don't worry. I'll take good care of him.]
