Chapter 6
In the hospital room, Carolyn's face was wrapped in bandages as she clung to Harrison, crying her heart out.
She said, "Harrison, I know I messed up. I shouldn't have set her parents' house on fire.
"But she's always bullying me, and now my face is ruined because of her. I was so mad."
Harrison wrapped his arms around her, whispering in her ear, his voice full of reassurance.
"Don't worry about it, it's just a house. It's gone, so what? With me here, nobody will ever dare to mess with you again," he said, his tone protective and unwavering.
Carolyn gazed up at him, tears streaming down her face, looking pitiful.
"I'm scared... My face is ruined. Are you really going to stay with me forever?" she whispered.
Seeing her so anxious and fragile, Harrison couldn't help but feel his heart soften completely.
He gently cupped her face, his touch soft and full of care.
"I've never loved you for your looks," he murmured, his voice gentle and sincere.
After a brief silence, he murmured, "Carolyn, I'll divorce Essie for you."
Essie stood in the doorway, watching them snuggled together, and let out a cold, mocking laugh.
The sudden sound of her laugh made both Harrison and Carolyn look up at her at the same time, startled by the interruption.
Carolyn's expression soured as she glared at Essie.
"What are you doing here?" Carolyn said.
Harrison looked at Essie, his gaze tangled with conflicting emotions.
He said, "So, you heard it all, huh?
"Look what you've done to Carolyn. She feels unsafe now.
"I can't just stand here and watch her get hurt. Let's get divorced.
"Pick any house you want in Ostville. Take it as compensation for the one your parents lost in the fire."
Essie strode toward them, her steps steady and full of purpose.
She locked eyes with them, her voice calm and cold, every word clear and unwavering.
She said, "You destroyed everything I had, and now you want me to divorce just so you two can get what you want?
"In your dreams!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Essie yanked out the dagger she'd been hiding and stabbed Carolyn right in the gut, giving it a brutal twist.
"Ah!" Carolyn shrieked, her scream filling the room.
Blood gushed from her stomach, pouring out and splattering everywhere.
Harrison couldn't believe what he was seeing, rage written all over his face as he glared at Essie.
"Essie!" Harrison shouted.
He grabbed her arm and twisted it back hard, not holding anything back.
Essie heard the sickening snap of bone breaking, echoing in her ears.
Pain sent cold sweat pouring down her forehead, and she crumpled to her knees, overwhelmed.
But Harrison didn't even look at Essie. He clamped his hand over Carolyn's bleeding wound, shouting frantically.
"Doctor! Doctor! Hurry, save her!"
Carolyn glared down at Essie, her eyes blazing with hatred as she screamed at the top of her lungs.
"Essie, you bitch! I swear I'll never let you get away with this," Carolyn shrieked.
Carolyn was wheeled into the operating room for emergency treatment.
Meanwhile, Harrison's bodyguards hauled Essie out of the hospital without a hint of hesitation.
Essie's hands that wielded the dagger, every single finger was smashed to pieces with a hammer, one after another.
The story of Essie attacking Carolyn went viral, and everyone online called her a psycho, saying she'd lost her mind.
Not only did Essie ruin her husband's secretary's face out of jealousy, but she stabbed Carolyn so badly that she destroyed Carolyn's womb.
She got slammed by tens of thousands of netizens overnight.
Harrison had her committed to a mental hospital.
Essie was beaten, shocked with electricity, and pumped full of meds.
In the end, she was locked up alone in a room.
The room was flooded with a nonstop 360-degree replay of every romantic moment between Carolyn and Harrison. Even the explicit scenes, and a real-time broadcast of Harrison proposing to Carolyn right there in the hospital.
No matter how much Essie screamed, cursed, or how hysterical she got, not a single person came to check on her for seven whole days.
Her feelings for Harrison, love and hate alike, grew indistinct, fading into a haze as the torment dragged on.
She could barely remember their past or what it even felt like to love him anymore.
The only thing left in her mind was the story of Harrison and Carolyn's twisted romance.
In the end, a hot gush of blood spilled beneath her, and she passed out, soaked in her own blood.
When she finally came to, she learned that the baby she'd been carrying for a month and a half was gone.
Essie dialed Harrison's number, her face expressionless, feeling nothing but emptiness inside.
"Let's get divorced," she said, her voice cold and devoid of any emotion.
On the day they finalized their divorce, Harrison arrived hand in hand with Carolyn.
He barely finished signing the divorce papers with Essie before turning around and registering his marriage with Carolyn.
Harrison took in Essie's appearance. She looked pale as a ghost, so thin she was barely recognizable.
His gaze was complicated, hard to read.
"If you ever need help, you know where to find me," Harrison said.
Essie stared at him, her face calm, almost emotionless.
"Harrison, I hope for the rest of your life, every wish goes unanswered, and every dream turns to ashes," she said, her voice icy and sharp.
Essie pulled herself out of her memories,
The sharp scent of disinfectant in the hospital hallway felt cold and empty, making her shiver.
She heard Harrison's voice in her ear.
Harrison turned to Carolyn.
He asked, "Why did she kneel at your feet and beg you back then?"
He sounded composed, yet Essie could feel the tension in his words, like a storm about to break.
Carolyn's face turned ghostly pale as she looked at him, clearly uneasy and caught off guard.
"Harrison, why are you here?" she asked.
