Chapter 2
I watched nervously as Victor opened his eyes.
He squinted, and his brows furrowed in suspicion.
"Who are you?" Victor's voice was rough, and he looked at me with guarded eyes.
Even though Victor was a mess right now, he still looked like he'd been carved out of marble, sharp, flawless, and radiating that intimidating aura.
I swallowed nervously, but before I could get a word out, Victor pressed his hand to his forehead, wincing in pain, and muttered, "Who am I?"
I stood there, stunned.
Victor had lost his memory. He couldn't remember who he was or anything about his past.
Then I lied and told him he was my boyfriend.
"You said I'm your boyfriend?" Victor asked, his eyes narrowing as he looked me up and down.
He leaned against the headboard, supported by me. The wariness he'd shown when he first woke up had faded a bit, but he was still clearly suspicious of me.
I was too nervous to meet his eyes, so I mumbled a quiet "yeah," keeping my head down.
Victor let out a soft, unreadable laugh. "So, you're telling me I don't have a job, and I've been living off you?"
I gave another quiet "yeah," sneaking a peek at Victor. I couldn't help but be captivated by the hint of a smile on his face.
I seemed to amuse these comments.
[LMAO, the villain's got amnesia, not brain damage. Even with amnesia, Victor would still know his orientation. No way he'd fall for some messy, moody dude.]
[This gloomy tech guy is seriously gross. Why is he saying he's Victor's boyfriend?]
[LOL, I told you Victor's finally getting what he deserves.]
They said I was Victor's payback. I knew I was not popular, not attractive, but I really have a thing for Victor.
Picking him up off the street might be the only shot I'd ever have at being around him.
And now he had lost his memories on top of that.
I knew I was taking advantage of him while he was down.
But I couldn't help myself.
Honestly, if Victor refused, I'd be tempted to keep him locked up.
It wouldn't be forever, just a week, maybe two at most. I promised.
I kept my head down, clasping my hands nervously. "Don't worry. I'll give you all my money. You don't have to lift a finger. I'll take care of everything. So, stay home and focus on getting better."
Maybe this was how I could make it up to him.
Besides, he was injured. If I looked after him, things would be easier for him.
It wouldn't last long.
If he decided to leave someday, I'd treasure whatever time we got together.
Maybe it was...
Maybe it was a little gift to myself, something to brighten up my messed-up life.
After I finished, Victor stared at me for a moment, like he was trying to figure me out.
I grabbed the coat in a rush and threw it over Victor's shoulders. "I'm taking you to the hospital."
Victor didn't refuse. He went along with whatever I did, letting me handle everything.
I ran around the hospital, making sure Victor was okay, before finally taking him back home.
"The doctor said once the swelling in your brain goes down, you might get your memory back. Don't stress about it. Just rest and let your body heal," I said as I helped Victor into the room.
He still looked like his head was killing him, but after a glance at me, he flopped down on my tiny bed.
I made myself a bed on the floor.
Ignoring all the shocked comments flying past, I hugged my blanket and shut my eyes, feeling genuinely happy.
*****
Victor was living with me now.
My usually empty apartment finally had some life in it.
Victor was always distant and a bit irritable, but I knew it was because he wasn't feeling well and was in a rough spot.
I cook for him every day, wait for him to finish eating, clean up after him, and then head off to work.
I was completely lost in the feeling of being in love with Victor.
Victor really lost his memories, and there was no sign he'd remember anything anytime soon.
He seemed to accept that he was my boyfriend now.
He ate whatever I made and did whatever I asked.
Once again, I bought Victor some new clothes today.
He glanced at the clothes I brought home for him, stayed silent, and quietly took them to change.
When Victor caught me staring at his abs, he turned around and gave a little laugh. "Like what you see?"
He pulled his shirt up a bit more, flashing more of those killer abs at me.
I couldn't help but nod, feeling like a total fool, cheeks burning bright red.
Victor gave a low, amused laugh and grabbed my hand, pressing it right against his abs.
They were rock hard.
A jolt shot up to my forehead, and my mouth went dry.
Victor stared at me like a snake targeting its prey.
"Avery, stop drooling." He breathed softly against my ear, that teasing smirk still lingering on his lips.
I was shivering right in front of him.
When I thought he was about to take things further, he suddenly let go of me.
He strode right past me and went to the kitchen to grab a glass of water.
I followed him. "What do you want for dinner tonight? I'll cook it for you when I get home."
"Whatever," Victor replied, then pushed the door open and went into the bedroom.
