Chapter 4
It was my secret base, my place to vent and heal.
Whenever things got tough, I'd go there to clear my head.
That night, right by the cabin, I ended up saving Osiris.
Back then, Osiris was badly hurt, so weak that he'd shapeshifted into his wolf form. His once sleek brown fur was now matted and stained with blood.
His eyes looked dull in the darkness, but when he heard my footsteps, he squinted at me. The dominance in his gaze was enough to make my legs go weak.
"Hello, do you need help?" I forced a harmless smile, but my palms were slick with sweat. Judging from his aura, I figured he had to be from one of the powerful wolf packs.
I really didn't want any trouble, and I was already kicking myself for fighting with Rowan and sneaking out to the cabin alone at night.
Osiris glanced at the cabin behind him. "Can you open it?"
I nodded and carefully stepped around him to open the cabin door.
"Is there any silver in there? Hide it," he said.
I almost forgot it was a full moon night. I followed his instructions and then helped him into the cabin.
Most of the supplies inside were still there, but Osiris' injuries were a real problem.
I only had some basic herbs, but it was better than nothing.
Of course, I let Osiris have the bed and took the floor myself. But I kept feeling my body was heating, and my heart racing, like something inside me was trying to break free.
I thought, 'The weather has been pretty warm lately. I can't be having a fever, can I?'
My temperature kept rising, and before long, everything started spinning.
Just before I lost consciousness, my gaze met Osiris' wolf eyes again.
My memories of that night were pretty hazy.
When I woke up, I could sense my inner wolf stirring inside me.
Osiris seemed to have recovered a little. He leaned on the bed with his arms crossed, watching me with a relaxed, almost dazed expression.
"You have a healing ability?" he asked.
I was even more confused than he was. "What?"
He grabbed my hand, and I felt a rush of energy reach my fingertips.
Then, something miraculous happened.
His terrible wounds started healing right before my eyes.
"Damn, what a treasure I've found!" he said.
I remembered that feverish rush from last night and realized that it was my wolf form awakening.
I finally had my own inner wolf. Osiris, now fully healed, had shapeshifted back to his human form. He wore a white high-collared shirt, a vest with gold embroidery, and a long burgundy cloak.
His sharp features and brown eyes made him both intimidating and irresistible.
I blinked, totally stunned by how good-looking he was.
Osiris pinched my cheek. "What's your name?"
"Anna," I said.
"Nice name. Do you have a mate yet?" he asked.
I answered honestly. "I'm in love with someone, and unless something changes, we're planning to have our mating ceremony in two weeks."
He seemed a little disappointed and sighed with pity. "I really need your healing ability. Do you want to be the Luna?"
My eyes went wide. I thought, 'Oh my god, he's the Alpha? No wonder he looks like he could rule the world and break hearts at the same time.'
"What, are you falling for me already?" he teased.
I shook my head like crazy. 'No way in hell!' I thought.
He laughed at my reaction, his voice low and tempting. "Since you haven't bonded with him yet, you're still free. Ever thought about switching mates?"
Still, I refused him.
As we said goodbye, he handed me a Moonstone and promised that if I ever wanted, I could become the Luna.
Whether it was half a month ago or now, I knew that what Osiris needed wasn't a mate, but the unique healing ability I had.
Back then, my heart and mind were all about Rowan, so I never really cared about that promise.
But now, I was glad I saved him back in that cabin.
