The gash on my back, still oozing blood, had been patched up again.

Stefan, having regained his composure, was sitting on the small sofa next to my hospital bed.

Seeing me awake, he got up, leaned in, and gently touched my forehead.

"Glad you're awake. The doctor said you lost a lot of blood, so you need to rest up," he said.

"You should've told me about Emily being sick earlier. Even if I didn't believe you, you should've made sure I understood," Stefan said, his voice so low that it almost lulled me.
