I woke up in my mom's bed. The ceiling was unfamiliar, but the lily-scented air was comforting. Sunlight filtered through the heavy curtains, casting a gentle glow across the room.

I couldn't remember the last time I'd slept so well. Light sleep, fear, anxiety, ever since the pregnancy. And now, three years of tension had finally snapped.

I sat up and stretched. The baby moved, too, as if in response. Mary came in carrying my breakfast, oatmeal, scrambled eggs, and a few small sides.
