Grant

Grant had begun the book because Diane told him someone needed to keep track.

Four days after the funeral, June had stood in the kitchen holding the real estate card. She said she did not want strangers walking through her mother's rooms.

Diane said grief had made every decision feel permanent. The insurance was due. A pipe had already leaked beneath the sink. The estate account had enough money for two more months.

Grant told June they would wait.
