At this very moment, I was lying face down on the examination bed, praying for the world to end immediately. Because the man currently performing a digital examination on a very sensitive part of my body with gloved, ice-cold fingers was my simp ex-boyfriend, Dennis Shaw, who was dumped by me five years ago. I felt so cursed. I had painstakingly booked a specialist, but I ended up seeing his expressionless face after I pulled back the curtain. Dennis said, "Noelle, after five years without seeing you, this part of you turns out to be harder than your heart." Wearing sterile gloves, he spoke with clinical detachment, but I could still hear the faint, vindictive satisfaction buried in his tone. I buried my face in the pillow and played dead, silently swearing that the moment I got off this bed, I would leave this city. "Dr. Shaw, are you done? I'm in a hurry!" I gritted out through my teeth. He said, "What's the rush? It's quite serious. I recommend admission for observation." He removed his gloves at a leisurely pace. Before he could say anything else, the clinic's broadcast suddenly exploded with a piercing alarm. A person said in the broadcast, "Emergency notice! Suspected infectious case in the outpatient department. The entire building is now under immediate lockdown. All personnel remain in place. No one is allowed to enter or leave!" Dennis and I were separated only by a thin curtain. We stared at each other while remaining in silence. The room was so quiet that I could hear a pin drop. A few seconds later, he drew the curtain open. On his absurdly handsome face, his lips slowly curved upward, carrying a faint, almost satisfied amusement. He said, "Miss Robson, it seems that in order to properly treat your condition, I'll have to conduct close-range, bedside treatment with you for the next fourteen days."
