Chapter 3

Night had fallen, and I was fiddling with the puzzle I'd asked Lucy to make. Meanwhile, I was wondering which consort in the palace was celebrating tonight and which one was sulking.

Footsteps stopped outside my door. My ears perked up, and I figured it was Lucy.

"Lucy, bring me my cakes, will you?" I called out.

But instead of Lucy, it was my father Matthew who walked in. "You really never listen to me, do you?" he said.

I looked up in shock. "Father?"

'Oh, no, why is he here? Those consorts are going to resent me even more…
