Chapter 4
Quite a few colleagues at the company were harboring resentment against Tina behind her back.
Now, they were all gathered together, trash-talking and letting it all out without holding back.
I didn't have time to bother with them. My eyes stayed locked on the computer screen in front of me.
Suddenly, a photo flashed on the newly opened webpage. It was one Tina had posted on Instagram back when she was studying in Vinands.
In the picture, she was rocking a spaghetti strap mini-dress, looking smoking hot as she grinded up close with a dark-skinned hottie on the dance floor.
It looked like Robin, who was clueless and blind as a bat, needed me to step in and give him a reality check.
And just like that, the perfect opportunity landed right in my lap.
Robin's driver, Darren Shaw, had to take emergency leave and couldn't find anyone to cover for him on short notice.
He happened to hear I was interning at the company, so he called me up and asked if I could help out.
Darren was only a few years older than me, a gentle and well-mannered guy. He was one of the few in the Floyd family who actually treated me with proper respect.
I agreed right away, and while I was at it, I managed to get the lowdown on Robin's schedule for Friday.
He had back-to-back important meetings all day, and then he'd be out entertaining a client in the evening.
Darren warned me that this client loved to party till dawn, so I should find the right moment to pull Robin out before things got too crazy.
I paused for a second. He was actually pretty thoughtful.
Friday rolled around.
Robin's meeting kicked off right on the dot at ten.
At ten fifteen, I swaggered up to the 22nd floor with everything I'd prepared.
The secretary's room was one door down from the CEO's office.
Tina wasn't there.
Just to cover myself, I asked around the office about Tina's whereabouts.
But they didn't even bother to hide their eye rolls at me.
I shrugged, not giving a damn, and made my way straight into Robin's office.
The room was spacious and airy, rocking a minimalist style.
A dark wood desk was positioned by the window, with a black leather sofa across from it.
A sleek abstract painting hung on the wall, and in the corner, a perfectly trimmed fiddle leaf fig brought some life to the place.
As I was taking in the room, hurried footsteps echoed from the hallway outside.
The door swung open.
"Barbara, what are you doing here?" Tina demanded, glaring at me, her face tight with irritation.
"My brother asked me to come," I replied, batting my lashes and deliberately stressing the word "brother."
"Just dropping something off," I added.
She shot me an impatient glare and stuck out her hand, clearly expecting me to hand it over.
I tightened my grip and just shook my head.
"Tina, this is something private for Mr. Floyd. It's not really right for someone outside the family to deliver it," I said, my voice calm but unyielding.
Tina snorted, finally dropping the pretense, and grabbed my wrist.
"You're Robin's sister, but you two don't even share any parents. How do you have the nerve to call me an outsider?" she shot back.
She leaned in, her breath hot against my ear.
"I'm warning you, don't play games around me," she hissed.
Tina squeezed my wrist so hard it turned red. The pain made me let go, and the tiny blue bottle landed in her palm.
She flashed me a triumphant grin, clutching the bottle.
When she finally read the label on the bottle, her face went from red to green, and in a fit of rage, she tossed the bottle right back at me.
