Lucas and Colin stood grim-faced in the living room. When Lucas spotted me, he snapped, "Where have you been?"

"I..." I tried a weak smile, then settled on, "I went to my room."

They glanced at each other, then went quiet.

Lucas went back to patching the wall. I swallowed hard, "Charles told you to protect me, right?"

Both looked over at me again.

"Look, if you don't want to, that's fine. The basement has food, weapons, and you've got your Abilities. Grab what you need and head for the safe zone."
