Chapter 4
Just then, the doorbell rang.
Edward frowned, walked over, and opened the door, only to have someone suddenly throw themselves into his arms.
Lily threw herself into his arms and held on tight. She cried, "Edward, I'm so scared. I can't stand being alone. Please, can I stay with you?
"I don't want to leave you. Can I move in with you, please?" Her face was a mess of tears.
Edward froze, then suddenly turned to me, like he was asking for my permission.
Lily turned to look at me, following his gaze.
She suddenly grabbed her head and screamed, "Claire, why? Why did you choose her? Weren't I the one you loved most? No! Why? Why did you do this to me?"
Edward rushed to hold her and said, "Lily, calm down."
Lily said, "Edward, I'm begging you. I can't live without you. If you're gone, I don't know what I'll do. I need you, I really do!"
She pulled away from Edward, then suddenly rushed over to me and grabbed at my legs.
She begged, "Please, Claire, I'm begging you. Please, just let me have Edward back, please?" Her tears streamed down her face.
Edward rushed over and said, "Lily, don't do this. Claire is my wife now, but we can help you together."
"Alright," I said.
Edward and Lily both froze.
I crouched down and gently stroked Lily's silky hair.
"Even though you're so upset, you still found time for a hair treatment, and your makeup is on point," I said.
Edward frowned and said, "Claire, what are you getting at?"
"Nothing," I said with a smile, turning to Lily.
I said, "I don't want him anymore. If he's up for it, I'll file for divorce today. Is that what you want?"
Lily froze, speechless.
Edward was just as stunned.
I ignored them and went back to my room.
Most of my stuff had already been packed up these past few days. I was basically ready to go.
Three months ago, after a bunch of auditions, I was chosen as the lead actress for a world tour with a top international theater company.
I didn't breathe a word to Edward. I just quietly finished up my work and prepared to leave.
Thanks to him, I lost my supporting role in that TV drama, which, honestly, just made it easier for me to head out early and start my pre-tour training.
After a few minutes, Edward showed up in my room, looking a bit tense.
Maybe it was because his wife had just watched another woman throw herself at him, but he looked pretty uncomfortable.
He said, "Can you stop giving me the silent treatment? Are you really going to move out? Does that even make sense?"
I was honestly amused.
I shot back, "Edward, you were the one who said it was a matter of life and death. So what? I did exactly what you wanted, pampered her just like you always do, and you're still going to say it's my fault?"
Edward frowned and said, "You know that's not what I meant. And don't talk like that, it doesn't suit you."
"If you don't like it, then don't look. You're the one who came to me," I retorted.
Edward said, "No, it's just... why are you talking like this?"
I looked up at him and shot back, "Harsh, yeah. That's just how I talk now."
He froze.
He said, "Forget it, you're upset. I'm not going to fight with you. Nothing happened between me and Lily. Whatever the media says, they got it all wrong.
"Right now, the best move is for us to show everyone that we're both helping her, and that you know about it and support it. I've already spoken out, but you..."
I exclaimed, "You want me to publicly back you two up?" I stared at him, couldn't believe what I was hearing.
