Chapter 2
Lilia suddenly burst out from behind me, her sharp fangs bared and ready to sink into Lyon's arm.
Lyon didn't pay Lilia any mind at all.
With a casual lift of his other hand, an invisible force slammed into Lilia, stopping her cold and keeping her from getting any closer.
Calian, as if something snapped inside him, jumped up. "What? You called her Mom? She's my mom, not yours."
As soon as the words left his mouth, razor-sharp claws sprang from his fingertips.
His eyes burned with fury as he leapt straight at Lilia.
My heart skipped a beat, and a sudden rush of power surged through me. I broke free from Lyon's iron grip and shouted, "Don't you dare touch my daughter."
Just as Calian's claws were about to reach Lilia, I lunged forward and pulled her into my arms, shielding her with my body.
At the same time, I swung my other arm out to block Calian's strike.
My blow sent him flying across the room.
He landed hard, sitting there in a daze, his face full of disbelief.
A few seconds later, he let out a loud wail and started bawling all over again. "Mom... you hit me."
"Freya!" Lyon's expression changed dramatically, shock written all over his features as he stared at me.
"How could you lay a hand on Calian? He's your own son," he shouted.
Then his gaze landed on Lilia, still cradled protectively in my arms.
"You're calling her your daughter now?" he demanded. "You're my wife. How could you go and have a daughter with another man?"
I hugged Lilia even tighter, my tone exasperated. "Sir, I've already made myself clear. I'm not Freya, and I'm definitely not your wife. I don't know you at all."
"You don't know us?" Lyon repeated.
He stood there, his suspicious gaze sweeping over my face again and again.
He was clearly searching for any sign that I was lying.
I met his eyes without flinching and hoped that once he realized I was telling the truth, he and his son would get out of my house already.
After a long while, Lyon finally seemed convinced I wasn't lying.
Confusion flickered in his eyes as he muttered to himself, "How... how is this possible? You really don't remember us?"
He stared at me, his golden eyes swirling with a storm of emotions.
"How could you not know us? "Freya, it's me—Lyon. I'm your Fated Mate, don't you remember?" he pleaded.
Hearing him call himself my Fated Mate, I couldn't help but frown.
Just as I was about to say something, a commotion erupted outside.
When I saw the guards finally show up, it felt like my rescuers had arrived at last.
I said, "Guards, you're just in time. These two strangers broke into my house and tried to hurt my daughter. Please, hurry up and kick them out of our territory."
The captain glanced at me, but instead of going after Lyon like I hoped, he did something that totally caught me off guard.
He placed his right hand over his chest and bowed respectfully to Lyon. "Your Highness, the Alpha knows you've come. He wishes to see you."
When Lyon didn't respond, the captain added, "It's about Ms. Elin Varkov."
Only then did Lyon finally turn his gaze to the captain. "Lead the way."

It wasn't just Lyon and Calian who got summoned to the Alpha's place. I got called in too.
But instead of meeting the Alpha, I was taken to meet his wife, Felicity Horn.
"So, ma'am, are you saying I might really be Lyon's wife?" I asked.
After I heard her explanation, my brow stayed furrowed for a long time.
"You are," Felicity declared, absolutely certain. "And Lyon isn't any werewolf.
"He's the only child born to the Wolf King and Queen, the one with the purest royal blood. He's the true heir to the Wolf King's throne.
"When I first met you, I never imagined your identity would be so extraordinary."
Thinking back on those days, Felicity couldn't help but get a little nostalgic.
Five years ago, she found me collapsed by the roadside, on the brink of death.
Moved by compassion, she brought me back to the pack, had the Shaman, Sylas Carter, treat me, and even offered me a place to live.
To this day, I was still deeply grateful to her.
"Elin... no, I should really call you Freya. Back then, you couldn't remember your own name, so I gave you the name Elin. But now, it's time for you to reclaim your real name—Freya Morvane."
Felicity gave my shoulder a reassuring pat.
