Set in Quillton, the story followed Ozzy Wood, who reluctantly accepted a hospital internship pushed by his parents. He met Mark Shaffer in the hospital hallway, and the two slowly grew close. Ozzy later learned Mark suffered from fatal familial insomnia, an incurable prion disease that gradually robbed him of sleep and physical function. They rekindled shared memories of volleyball, spent quiet nights at Ozzy's home watching films, and gradually formed an intimate bond. They also crossed paths with Mark's old friends, Ryker Zayas and Wiley. As Mark's condition steadily worsened, he endured hallucinations, panic attacks and rapid weight loss. On the city's first snowy day, Mark confessed his fear of fading away and begged Ozzy to leave to avoid grief, yet Ozzy refused to abandon him. Mark's health continued to deteriorate until he passed away in early February. After Mark's death, Ozzy sank into prolonged sorrow, clinging tightly to every precious memory they created together.
