Chapter 3
"Let's see if you're really immortal," Elijah said.
The fire shaped itself into a blazing arrow and came right at my chest.
I didn't even have time to dodge.
The crowd gasped in shock.
The flaming arrow pierced right through my chest.
A wave of agony crashed over me.
I looked down and saw a charred hole burned into my chest.
But no blood came out.
The hole was healing right before my eyes.
In just a few seconds, my chest was completely healed. Even my shirt looked brand new, like nothing had ever happened.
Elijah's smile turned stiff, frozen in disbelief.
My heart literally stopped for a moment, then kicked right back in.
I really was... undying.
"Monster..." Elijah muttered.
His eyes glinted with greed and jealousy.
He gestured with a wave of his hand.
"Bring him to me. I want to see what makes him tick," he ordered.
The two bodyguards started moving toward me.
I frowned and took a step back.
Even if I couldn't die, getting caught was still a bad idea.
Just then, my parents came running over, screaming.
They weren't here to protect me.
My mom practically latched onto Elijah's leg, groveling.
"Mr. Davis. Mr. Davis. We're his parents!" she shouted.
My dad pointed at me, groveling with greed, his fingers shaking with excitement.
"Yeah, yeah, we made this freak. He's all yours. Do whatever you want with him," he said. "Just give us a little... something in return."
Elijah watched them with a playful grin, clearly amused.
"Oh? So what is it you want?" he teased.
My dad rubbed his hands eagerly, greed practically dripping from his voice. "A villa downtown, and... three million dollars."
My mom jumped in, "Mr. Davis, if you want to check out his DNA or anything, we can get you first-hand samples."
"Deal," Elijah said casually.
He agreed with a shrug, like it was no big deal.
My parents went wild with joy.
They turned to me, their eyes cold and vicious.
"William, did you hear that?" My mom said. "Mr. Davis wants you. This is your lucky break.
"Don't just stand there. Get moving and follow Mr. Davis."
I looked at their greedy, twisted faces, feeling nothing but cold inside.
These were my parents.
For a pile of cash, they'd sell me without even blinking.
I ignored them and bolted.
The two bodyguards gave chase immediately.
I felt a rush of energy surging through me. My legs moved faster than ever before.
I quickly lost them, melting into the chaos of the crowd.
I had to get to the hospital right away.
I needed to make sure Charlotte was actually okay now.
When I got to the hospital, doctors and nurses were crowded around Charlotte's room, blocking the hallway.
All of them looked absolutely shocked, their faces full of disbelief.
The head doctor spotted me and grabbed my hand, practically shaking with excitement.
"It's a miracle! A medical miracle!" he exclaimed. "All of Charlotte's cancer cells are gone. She's healthier than anyone I've ever seen."
I burst into the room.
Charlotte was sitting in bed, looking out the window with wide-eyed curiosity.
Her cheeks were rosy again, and her eyes sparkled with life.
As soon as she saw me, she gave me a big, happy smile.
"William," Charlotte called out.
I rushed over and held her tight.
I couldn't hold back my tears anymore.
I did it.
I really did it.
"William, what's wrong?" Charlotte asked, her voice full of concern.
She gently patted my back.
I wiped away my tears and smiled. "It's nothing, Charlotte. I'm just really happy."
Just then, the door to the hospital room was kicked open.
Elijah and his men crowded the entrance, blocking any way out.
My parents stood right behind him.
They pointed at Charlotte and said to Elijah, "Mr. Davis, she's his weakness. He cares about her more than anything."
Elijah's eyes locked onto Charlotte, a cruel grin spreading across his face.
"You can't die," he said coldly.
"But what about her?" he asked, his voice icy.
He reached for Charlotte's wrist.
Charlotte let out a terrified scream.
I instantly shielded her behind me, fixing Elijah with a fierce stare.
"What do you want?" I demanded.
"Not really," Elijah said, his grin growing more sinister.
"I just want to see if the sister of an immortal can't die either," he said.
A ball of fire ignited in his palm.
My parents looked absolutely thrilled, not caring one bit about Charlotte's safety.
"Yeah! Burn her," my dad shouted.
"Burn that dead weight!" my mom screamed.
Their voices slithered into my ears like venomous snakes.
My heart went completely cold.
Elijah aimed the fire straight at Charlotte.
"This is your last chance. Come with me," he said, his voice icy. "Or your precious sister gets burned to a crisp."
