"Dad fell in love with someone else, didn't he?"

Sophie stood on the stairs, tears sliding down her cheeks.

Daniel's expression shifted drastically. "You shouldn't be eavesdropping on adults."

"Don't blame her. Sophie is seventeen, she's allowed to know this." I walked over and took my daughter's cold hand in my palm. "You're the one who shouldn't have said those things in this house."

"I was just explaining my feelings."

"You were telling me that eighteen years of marriage made you feel like you were dead."

Sophie looked toward her father, her voice shaking. "Who is that woman?"
