Chapter 5

Just before I lost consciousness, I heard Matthew's voice filled with panic.

"Carly! Hurry. Call someone. Get a gurney here quickly," he urged.

When I woke up again, three days had passed.

Every inch of my body hurt, and there was an IV in the back of my hand. When I opened my eyes, it wasn't Sophie by my bedside. It was Matthew.

So I wasn't dead after all. I'd honestly thought my time was up.
