Chapter 5
Lily grabbed his arm.
"Jonathan, don't go. She's just doing this on purpose."
I glanced back at her.
"Lily, what are you so afraid of?"
Her grip loosened and she let go.
I headed for the door.
Jonathan caught up to me and said in a low voice, "Evelyn, think carefully. If you go through with this, don't expect me to go easy on you."
"That's exactly what I've been waiting to hear," I replied.
The shareholders' meeting was held at Blue Ridge's headquarters.
When I arrived, Jonathan was already sitting at the head of the table.
Lily wasn't allowed in, but she waited by the door.
She stepped in front of me.
"Evelyn, are you really going to ruin him?"
"Move," I said coldly.
She lowered her voice. "Don't think you've won just because you own some shares. There's no way Jonathan will let you onto the board."
"Let's see if he can actually stop me."
Lily suddenly let out a laugh.
"Do you know why he never wanted to go public about your fake divorce?"
I stopped.
She moved in, just half a step closer.
"Because he was always planning to push you out. You think he just loves me? No, he's been guarding himself against you since day one."
I stared at her.
"Thanks for the reminder."
Lily froze, stunned.
I pushed the door open and walked in.
The conference room was filled with people.
Jonathan spoke up. "Evelyn, you bought up shares for a hostile takeover and threw the company into chaos. I say we ban you from this meeting."
Michael cleared his throat.
"Mr. Grant, there's no such rule in the company charter," he said.
Jonathan shot him a look.
"What are you getting at, Mr. Bennett?"
Michael looked down and flipped through the documents.
"According to the shareholding ratio, Miss Stone has every right to be here."
Jonathan's face grew even darker.
I took my seat.
He sneered, "Fine, since you're here, listen up. The company's got a 800 million dollar hole. If you really care about Blue Ridge, hand your shares over to the management team and kick in more cash to bail us out."
I asked, "And who exactly am I supposed to trust with them?"
"Me," he said.
"So you want my shares and my money, just so you can keep Lily on your payroll?"
A few shareholders lowered their heads.
Jonathan slammed his hand on the table.
"Evelyn!"
The door opened again.
Attorney Clark walked in, followed by a representative from Summit Capital.
Jonathan frowned when he saw who it was.
"What are you doing here?"
Attorney Clark handed out documents to everyone.
"I'm here to disclose Summit Capital's latest shareholding status."
Jonathan snatched the documents.
The next second, he looked up at me.
"67%?" he blurted out.
The room buzzed with whispers.
Lily heard the commotion from outside and pushed the door open.
"What do you mean, 67%?" she asked.
Attorney Clark said, "Summit Capital has completed its share increase and now holds 67% of Blue Ridge Holdings."
Jonathan fixed his gaze on the representative.
"Who's really running Summit Capital?"
The representative came to stand by my side.
"Ms. Stone," he said.
Jonathan's hand gripped the edge of the table.
Attorney Clark continued, "Which means the new largest shareholder of Blue Ridge Holdings is—"
"Me."
I cut Attorney Clark off and took over.
Everyone in the conference room turned to look at me.
I placed the authorization letter on the table.
"Summit Capital is under my control now. I'm Evelyn Stone," I declared.
Jonathan stood frozen, speechless.
Lily snapped out of it first.
"No way! Where did you get that kind of money?" she demanded.
I turned to her.
"I sold my house."
Her face went pale.
I added, "And all the money I've made these past few years, plus what my Song family gave me before the wedding."
