Chapter 2
Every day, Yolanda's taunting messages arrived like clockwork.
It was a photo this time.
Several boxes of condoms were scattered on the ground.
Yolanda: [Guess we had a wild night, right?]
Yolanda: [Chase is busy planning our wedding. He will marry me in just a few days.]
Yolanda: [Drop dead, you pathetic old hag.]
I saved the screenshot like it was second nature. Just as I was closing the app, a message popped up.
He asked me when I would go abroad.
I replied that I would leave in a week.
No more waiting for five years. It was time to end this empty marriage once and for all.
I had a long life ahead of me. I couldn't spend the rest of my life with losers like him.
Early the next morning, Chase and his lawyer, Dylan Foster, came.
He didn't say a word after entering my house.
Dylan handed me the divorce papers.
Chase said, "Everyone at school is calling Nianna mistress. She's been crying nonstop and refuses to go to class.
"Let's get divorced and tell everyone we've been over for ages.
"She's still a student. She can't carry the bad name of mistress for the rest of her life."
In the past six months, I'd been worried Chase would never agree to a divorce without making things messy.
I'd spent all that time collecting proof of his affairs, but I didn't expect the divorce to be so simple.
Seeing me not speaking for a long time, he looked impatient again.
He snapped, "Hurry up and sign it.
"Over a period of time, you can just pull the divorce application back."
While rushing me to sign, Chase gently spoke to Yolanda, telling her to take care of herself during her pregnancy.
His tone was full of genuine concern, which clearly showed that he was completely devoted to her.
Chase said, "Nianna, Yolanda's got a prenatal checkup booked. I'm in a hurry.
"Don't mess with me."
Staring at Chase's face, I thought of our first kid.
After three months of our marriage, I became pregnant.
I rushed to Chase's office, wanting to share the good news with him in person.
But when I opened the door, I caught him being intimate with his secretary, Zoe Parker.
I went crazy and grabbed the vase, smashing it on both of them.
I hurled every vicious insult I could at them.
While shoving and struggling, I slipped and fell. Then I lost the baby.
When I woke up, Chase was kneeling beside my bed.
As soon as he saw I was awake, he slapped himself in the face like a madman.
He slapped himself so hard his face swelled up, and he even knocked out a tooth.
I overheard the nurses saying he'd been kneeling in the ward all night.
Back then, Chase said he was unforgivable, and he deserved every punishment in the book.
He called himself worthless, said he should die to make up for it, and promised he'd leave me everything he owned.
So I caved and forgave him.
Chase personally put up a memorial for our unborn baby.
He even invited a renowned monk to pray for the baby's soul.
He'd hold me and comfort me every night, saying that we'd have another chance, another baby.
But less than half a month later, he cheated again.
Never trust his promises.
Maybe it was because of that baby, and my heart twisted painfully.
My face became very pale.
I clenched my fists and shot back, "Why should I sign?"
Chase's face darkened immediately. He snapped his phone shut, his voice sharp with irritation.
He snapped, "Nianna, you must sign it.
"If you don't sign, Richard's company..."
My father, Richard White's company...
Chase didn't even know. The company had already gone bankrupt and was being liquidated.
My parents had both gone abroad.
Before he could finish his threat, I signed it quickly.
When I raised his head, I met his stunned gaze head-on.
Chase's face went stiff for a moment.
He dismissed it with a sneer.
He said, "You should've signed earlier. Why waste time?
"I love Yolanda now. Everyone else needs to make way for her."
I just nodded and remained silent.
After all, I would completely disappear from Chase's life in a week.
Seeing me like that, Chase looked angrier.
He snatched the divorce papers from me and left without looking back.
On his way out, Chase called over his shoulder, "Yolanda likes the house we bought for our wedding. I'll give it to her."
He fixed me with a cold stare.
I just nodded, like it didn't matter to me.
Chase's face suddenly turned cold. He left without another word, his expression dark.
I just ignored him. He wasn't worth my attention.
Before I leave, there was still a lot I needed to handle.
For starters, submitting my resignation.
While I was walking into the principal's office, Yolanda was the only one there.
As soon as she saw me, she crossed her arms and gave me an arrogant smirk.
She sneered, "Washed-up old hag, just a few crocodile tears, and Chase dumped you in an instant.
"I'm going to be his wife soon."
I held my resignation letter and said calmly, "Congratulations."
Yolanda wasn't satisfied with how I reacted. She blocked my way and threw my papers to the ground.
Then she crushed them under her shoe, stomping hard.
