Chapter 1
The night I decided to divorce Ethan Grant, I ordered a male escort.
I pressed the tip of my stiletto against his firm shoulder, and the next second, the door to the private room swung open.
Standing in the doorway was Alex Carter, Ethan's best friend.
The aloof, untouchable man who had never once paid attention to me now swept his gaze over me from head to toe, his eyes scrutinizing and predatory.
Alex suddenly closed the distance, his breath scorching my ear and sending a shiver down my spine.
He murmured, "Is this your way of getting revenge on Ethan?
"Why not try me? Wouldn't that be way more exciting?"

On Ethan and my third wedding anniversary, he didn't come home again.
On the phone, his voice was as impatient as ever. "Yolanda, can't you be reasonable? Ruth's sick. I can't leave her."
It was Ruth Rowan again.
She was Ethan's first love, and also the old wound on his heart that would never heal.
And me? I was just a legal name on the marriage certificate, and an eyesore in his life.
I hung up the phone, staring at a table of food going cold and that bottle of wine. I suddenly laughed.
I took off the white dress Ethan loved and slipped into the most eye-catching red slip dress in my closet.
I shed the mask of the perfect wife and swiped on the boldest red lipstick.
Then I drove to the city's most exclusive private club, Midnight Club.
"Bring me your priciest male escort," I said to the manager.
I was letting loose tonight. Nobody could stop me.
The manager shot me a weird look, but just nodded politely and slipped out.
Soon, the door to the private room swung open.
The man who walked in was tall and lean, dressed in a simple white shirt and black slacks. His cool, distant aura was totally out of place in a club dripping with decadence like this.
He was so tall that even with my four-inch heels, I barely reached his chin.
The lighting was dim, and I couldn't see his face clearly, but that unmistakable cedar cologne smelled familiar to me.
I was a little tipsy and my mind fuzzy, but I could tell this male escort was definitely high-end.
I swirled my glass and flashed a smile. "Have a seat."
The guy settled onto the couch across from me, legs crossed, radiating effortless confidence—like he owned the place, not like he was here to work.
I walked over and teased his chin up with the tip of my stiletto.
He didn't even flinch.
He had that ice-cold vibe.
On impulse, I raised my leg and pressed the tip of my stiletto right onto his shoulder.
His shirt barely hid the heat and firmness of the muscle beneath.
I leaned in, my red lips practically grazing his ear. "So, handsome, want to play something wild?"
Just then, with a loud bang, the door to the private room was thrown open.
I was startled and my heel slipped.
A big hand gripped my waist, steady and sure, pulling me right into a burning-hot embrace.
Heart racing, I looked up and locked eyes with a pair of deep eyes.
Standing in the doorway was Alex, Ethan's best friend and the most famous heir in the city.
And there I was, in the most awkward, compromising position, cradled in the arms of the male escort I'd just been stepping on with my stiletto.
Damn it.
The world was way too small. Guess it was not a good day for me to come out.
Alex's expression didn't change at all. He closed the door and walked toward us.
His gaze was like an X-ray, scanning me from head to toe before finally landing on the face of the man under my heel.
Wait a minute.
I froze, my head dropping as I finally saw the face—one I'd seen splashed across business magazines a million times.
Chiseled jaw, high-bridged nose, lips pressed tight.
This was not a male escort at all.
This was Alex Carter, in the flesh!
My mind went totally blank.
I sobered up instantly.
I wanted to pull back my foot, but the guy's hands clamped down on my shoulder, keeping me right where I was.
He slowly got up, still holding me tight.
I was basically draped all over him, and the pose couldn't be more suggestive.
Alex strode over, and the two tall, imposing men faced off. The tension in the room was so thick.
No, "Alex" was holding me, and we were staring down another Alex.
Did I get so drunk that I was hallucinating?
Alex at the door finally spoke, his voice cold as ice, "Get out."
The "Alex" who was holding me finally released me, kept his head down, and left without saying a word.
He was a substitute, looking almost 80% like Alex.
He was the club's star, specializing in copying Alex's every move and vibe, just so all those women who could only fantasize about Alex could get a taste.
By some twisted luck, I'd ended up ordering Alex's knockoff.
And the real Alex caught me right on the spot.
My legs went weak, and I tried to pull away from Alex, but he held me even tighter.
"Yolanda," Alex said, his voice low and husky, like the deep sound of a cello. "Is this your way of getting revenge on Ethan?"
I didn't say a word, and my heart was pounding like crazy.
Alex suddenly closed the distance, his breath scorching my ear and sending a shiver down my spine. "Why not try me? Wouldn't that be way more exciting?"
