Chapter 3
At least I could breathe a little easier.
Thanks to his scheming, I'd managed to dodge a bullet.
The top-notch legal team charged sky-high fees, but honestly, it was worth every penny.
In just one afternoon and evening, they pulled together a divorce plan that was tailor-made for me, just as I wanted and totally in my favor.
The next morning, I put the signed and redrafted divorce papers in front of Dylan.
Chloe picked it up first, and after just a few lines, she shrieked, "Dylan, Iris is demanding to take away every villa, every shop, every car you own, and thirty million dollars in cash?
"She's just an old hag who can't even have kids. How dare she make such outrageous demands!"
Chloe clutched her chest, gasping for air in anger.
Dylan was also furious when he heard that, his eyes full of mockery. He sneered, "Iris, I didn't expect you to be so greedy for money. All that talk about loving me for who I am, guess you were just pretending to be above it all.
"In the end, you just want the money, right?"
Without hesitation, I shot back, "Well, you used to swear you'd love me for life, but you threw that promise away like it was trash. If you and Chloe really don't care about money, then stop fighting me for the money and property."
My words struck a sore spot, leaving Dylan speechless in anger.
Chloe hurriedly tried to help him catch his breath.
Then she locked eyes with me, her tone laced with mock sympathy.
She said, "Dylan, isn't Iris just setting the bar so high because she doesn't really want to divorce you at all?
"That's right. Women her age have a hard time finding someone new. She's just a housewife who does nothing, and with you being such an eligible guy, of course, she doesn't want to let go.
"But Iris, you can't force love. If you really love Dylan, you'd know when to let go, instead of making him suffer along with you."
I wasn't angry at all. Instead, I just smiled and went along with Chloe's act.
I said, "Yes, that's right. I'm not letting go, and I'm not giving up. So you might as well give up.
"As long as I don't agree to divorce, that bastard of yours will always be an illegitimate kid nobody accepts, and you'll always be the mistress everyone wants to slap!"
Chloe was so furious she nearly passed out, clutching Dylan for support as she cried out, "Dylan, she admitted it! She just wanted money!
"You can't just let her take everything for nothing! How can she demand so much just by saying a few words? You're about to get kicked out with nothing!"
Dylan looked downright miserable, clearly on the same page as Chloe. He didn't want to sign the agreement at all.
I nodded with a smile and said, "Alright then."
I snatched the divorce papers, ripped them in half, and flung the pieces into the air.
I continued, "Since you think I'm taking advantage, then I will not divorce you."
They were totally caught off guard by how fast I changed my mind.
Dylan and Chloe went pale, shooting each other nervous looks. They were even more frantic than before.
Dylan asked, "Iris, can't we just take it slow? What are you in a hurry for?"
I ignored him and kept laughing.
I said calmly, "I'm not in any rush. Anyway, I don't even want a divorce. If we can't reach a deal, then no divorce.
"Honestly, dragging this out feels pretty damn good. When your bastard is finally born, I'll head over to Evergreen Group, Chloe's school, and her hometown.
"I'll plaster the place with giant posters, string up banners, and bring a whole army of livestreamers to throw you a party.
"Let everyone see that the Foster family finally has an heir. Thanks to Chloe, who managed to get pregnant by 'telepathy' or whatever magic you two claim."
My words made the lawyers around me laugh.
Chloe was so embarrassed that she didn't dare to raise her face again.
Dylan lost it completely, pushed past his breaking point by me. He was shouting at the top of his lungs, "I'll sign it!"
After saying that, he snatched the divorce papers from the lawyer and read them.
The faster he went, the more his hands trembled.
He looked like he was about to blow a gasket.
But I didn't miss it. After he finished reading all the property division terms, I caught his reaction.
The slight, uncontrollable curve at the corner of his mouth said it all.
Maybe others didn't know.
But I knew for sure he'd fallen right into my trap.
Dylan had spent so many years hustling in the business world, so he quickly regained his composure.
He skimmed through the agreement, sighed, and spoke in a negotiating tone, "Iris, we've been married for many years. If you want everything I have, I'll give it to you.
"But this amount is too much. I really can't get that much cash right now. Maybe."
"No," I cut him off. "Not a single cent less. Full payment, no exceptions. If you can't do that, there's nothing more to discuss."
Dylan glanced at his lawyer, then frowned.
