Chapter 5
[Damn, Christine's sister is seriously smart. She's managed to survive all the way till now. If it were anyone else, they'd have been killed in that house ages ago.]
[If Christine hadn't been dragging her down, she probably would've escaped already, right?]
[But if she doesn't die, how's Christine supposed to meet the cop male lead and start a romance with him? Wouldn't that totally mess up the plot?]
[Oh, right. So is the love story between Christine and the rich cop ruined now?]
While the words flashed by, I quietly ducked down beneath the seat.
Carefully, I slid from the front seat to the back, trying not to make a sound.
Christine wasn't giving up. She kept searching the parking lot, dead sure I was hiding somewhere in here.
Every time she walked past a car, she'd bend down and check underneath, making sure I wasn't hiding there.
She kept yelling until her voice was hoarse, totally losing her cool.
Finally, she snapped and kicked a nearby car door hard.
"Damn it, where the hell did she go?" Christine cursed. "It's only been a few minutes. No way she could've gotten out of the neighborhood yet. The parking lot's the closest spot."
I was stunned. Wait, what did she mean by that?
I was getting more and more confused. But one thing was clear: Christine was definitely not as simple as she looked.
Not long after, the guy walked up to Christine from the exit.
"Didn't you say your sister was hiding here? So where is she?" he demanded.
My eyes widened in shock. Wait, they know each other?
Christine pursed her lips in annoyance.
"She jumped out the bathroom window. The parking lot's the closest spot. There's no way she could've made it all the way to the neighborhood's main gate," she said, sounding impatient. "Trust me, she's still here."
The man slowly gripped the axe in his hand. "We've been searching all this time. So, where do you think she's at?"
Words exploded before my eyes.
[Wait, isn't Christine supposed to be the main character? When did she start working with the killer?]
[Is Christine actually setting her sister up for the killer? This is insane!]
[Wasn't this supposed to be a cute romance between Christine and the rich cop? How did things get so messed up?]
[I'm stunned. Someone explain what's happening.]
[Holy shit!]
I covered my mouth, unable to believe what I was hearing.
Christine's words, and the flashing words, made my blood run cold.
What the hell did Christine mean by that? Why did she want me dead?
I freaked out, chills running down my spine.
I just couldn't figure it out. Why would my own sister, the one I've spent my whole life with, suddenly help the killer hunt me down? It made no sense at all.
Christine furiously punched the car window beside her, frustration written all over her.
Her expression turned downright vicious.
"Why does she always have to make trouble for me? So freaking annoying! Can't she just behave and let you finish her off already?" Christine snapped.
The man looked at her in surprise. "I always thought you sisters were tight. Turns out you're worse than enemies," he said.
Christine rolled her eyes.
"You wouldn't get it even if I explained. She was supposed to die anyway. She was never meant to survive. I'm just helping her out," Christine spat.
What the hell did she mean by I was supposed to die? I thought, completely thrown off.
The more I listened, the more off everything felt.
And hearing how little Christine seemed to care just sent a chill straight through me.
She talked about my death like it was nothing.
"She's gotta still be in the parking lot. Where the hell is she hiding?" Christine muttered.
Suddenly, a lightbulb went off in Christine's head. Her eyes flashed with excitement.
"Wait! My sister just got herself a new electric car last week. She's gotta be hiding in it," Christine blurted out, her voice brimming with confidence.
But in the next moment, she gave the car next to her a frustrated kick. "Ugh, I didn't go with her when she got her new car, so I have no clue what she bought.
"Seriously, how am I supposed to find it with all these cars here?"
The guy's face lit up with excitement.
"That's easy. Just use the voice activation. Electric cars respond to that. Give it a shot," he said. "Didn't you say her car's brand new? Bet she hasn't even changed the default voice command yet."
Christine grumbled, clearly annoyed, "But there are at least sixty or seventy electric cars parked here. If I have to try them all one by one, we'll be here till the end of time. It'll be too late."
Suddenly, an idea hit Christine and she hurriedly whipped out her phone.
"Wait, I remember," she burst out, her excitement barely contained. "She posted a picture of her new car on her social media."
My whole body was shaking. I just couldn't believe she was really my own sister.
Even if she was just trying to save herself, did she really have to sell me out this hard?
She muttered to herself, her face flushing with excitement, "Let me look at her feed. She's got a pink electric car."
"It's here," Christine exclaimed after looking around, her eyes lighting up as she spotted a pink car.
My arms were trembling so badly I could barely hold still, and my head felt fuzzy.
My stomach twisted with nausea. I was so nervous I thought I might actually be sick.
I'd no idea what I should do.
Damn it. Why didn't I set my feed to disappear after three days? I mentally kicked myself.
"So this is where you're hiding," Christine called out, her voice ringing out with smug satisfaction.
She smooshed her face right up against the pink car window, her features mashed and twisted.
Her eyes glared through the privacy glass like she could see me hiding inside.
"Come on, I know you're in there," Christine taunted, her tone dripping with triumph.
