Chapter 6

Philip's gaze swept the room like a blade, sharp and predatory, dissecting everyone in sight.

When he caught sight of James, his eyes widened in surprise. "James? Why are you here?"

James gave a polite nod, his expression unreadable. "Mr. Hayes. I'm here on behalf of an acquaintance, handling a few property matters."

Philip's stare turned glacial. He ignored the explanation entirely and strode straight toward the bed.

My breath stopped. Terror locked every muscle in place.

I clutched Andrew tighter, pressing us both deeper into the shadowed corner beneath the bed. My body felt fossilized, cold and rigid, useless.
