Chapter 2
Olivia and Richard quickly signed the divorce papers and headed to the civil affairs office. Once the thirty-day cooling-off period was over, they'd be officially divorced.
Richard started packing up, getting ready to move in with his first love.
Even though he was supposed to leave with nothing, Richard had made a lot of money for the company over the years and had squirreled away some cash on the side.
Olivia was generous. She ignored his stash, so he didn't walk out totally broke.
But all the properties, shares, and investments in their names ended up with Olivia.
After buying a villa with his stash, Richard was pretty much tapped out.
With the property split settled, it was time to deal with the company.
The board meeting was scheduled for next week, and before that, we had to come up with a PR strategy to handle all the public relations drama that would come with the new chairman.
After all, this was a public company. Executive shake-ups weren't something you can sort out overnight.
I thought everything would go smoothly, but the moment I stepped into the office, trouble was already waiting for me.
"Young Ms. Summers, the deal with Stellar Enterprises fell through," my assistant said.
"Stellar Enterprises is one of our oldest clients. Renewing the contract should've been a piece of cake. How did it fall through?" I asked.
My assistant looked uneasy, stammering.
Emily frowned and pressed, "Spit it out. What happened?"
The assistant said, "Mr. Bennett put Manager White in charge of the negotiations.
"Manager White thought we were giving Stellar Enterprises too much of a discount, and since we're the only ones who can supply what they need, she tried to hike up the renewal price. Stellar Enterprises refused to renew the contract."
"Why was I kept in the dark about something this important? And who exactly is this Manager White? How did HR end up letting someone this clueless in?"
"Mr. Bennett said Manager White had full authority and didn't need to report to anyone. And HR didn't hire her. Mr. Bennett brought her in himself."
Richard was always sharp when it came to company business. Hehe never messed around with the big stuff.
But this time, he actually brought in manager behind my back. There's definitely more to her than meets the eye.
"Set up a meeting with Mr. Gold from Stellar Enterprises. I'll handle it myself. And have Manager White come see me," I said.
While my assistant went to get her, I pulled up the manager's profile.
Chloe White, supposedly has an overseas degree, but it's from some third-rate foreign college could basically buy the way into.
No work experience whatsoever, and she landed straight into the manager position in the business department.
Since when did Summers Corp start letting just anyone in?
I found the reason right there in her resume.
Chloe's mom is Celia, who is Richard's first love.
Well, that explains everything.
