Chapter 3
David was grinding hard at his startup—out early, home late.
The next morning, I woke up to find he'd already left.
But there was breakfast on the table. Well, takeout—but from my favorite spot.
I was actually touched that he remembered.
If only he actually liked me.
Getting a second shot at life didn't magically make me smarter—I was still pretty much a ditz.
But after getting my ass kicked by life the first time around, I'd at least learned the basics. Cooking, cleaning, that sort of thing.
That night, I made a proper dinner and waited for David.
He looked surprised but didn't say anything—just ate everything and even cleaned up the kitchen afterward.
I headed to the master bathroom to shower. When I came out, he was going into the guest bathroom.
Since I was already in there, I flopped onto his bed and scrolled through my phone. About five minutes later, I heard the door.
I glanced over.
David walked in wearing just a towel, using another to dry his hair.
He seemed a bit surprised to see me.
I sat up slowly, giving him my best bedroom eyes. "Wanna do it?"
David raised an eyebrow. "Sure."
Some things are impossible to quit—once you get a taste, you only want more.
No foreplay. Straight to it.
After three rounds, I still wasn't satisfied. I shot him a hungry look. "Again?"
David's jaw clenched. "No."
I patted his shoulder. "Alright, get some rest. Tomorrow night then."
Then I added with a grin, "Better recharge—you'll need it."
His expression darkened, but I just ignored it and bounced out of the room, feeling great.
With a baggage-free heart, the body truly relaxed.
I settled into my new life pretty quickly. I figured I'd better find something to do, or I'd just spend all day in my own head.
Dad had shelled out serious money for me to study fashion design, but I was a total slacker—barely learned anything.
In my past life, I'd ended up as a designer's assistant at a clothing factory.
Life kicked my ass until I finally grew up. One of my designs actually blew up and became that year's hottest seller.
But I didn't see a single extra cent—all the credit and bonuses went to my boss while I did all the grunt work.
Just thinking about how I worked myself to death for nothing, literally dying from endless overtime, made me want to scream.
Once David got rich, I was definitely going to have him bankroll a boutique for me.
Then making a living would be easy.
But first, I needed to build a following online.
I was planning to show off my dress-making skills and model them, then turn it all into viral clips for social media.
After deciding to go for it, I ordered everything online—tools, fabric, all of it.
While waiting for my supplies, I started sketching out designs.
David texted me, saying he'd be home late, so I shouldn't wait up for dinner.
Since I was busy anyway, I just threw together something quick.
It was a little after eight when I finished my sketches and went to shower.
The master bedroom door was open.
When I came out of the bathroom, I caught David just as he was heading back to the guest room.
He paused, looked at me, and said in that businesslike tone—like it was just another chore—"Give me ten minutes."
I wasn't particularly horny tonight, so I hadn't planned on bothering him.
But since he'd made the first move, why would I say no?
I waited for him on the guest room bed.
The second he came out, I jumped him—no hesitation.
I knew his limits, so after three rounds, I started to slip away before he could protest.
But as I was getting off the bed, he caught my ankle.
"You always just leave right after? Don't you think that's kind of shitty?"
I paused, a little thrown. "So what do you want me to do?"
I could definitely go again, but he was clearly exhausted.
Watching him all wiped out was honestly pretty satisfying, but since I wasn't planning to divorce him anytime soon, I should probably pace myself.
David clenched his jaw. "Can't we just share the bed?"
I shook my head immediately. "Absolutely not!"
His face darkened instantly. "Why?"
"I'm just used to my own bed," I said.
David hesitated for a moment, then suddenly stood up and scooped me into his arms.
Startled, I asked, "What are you doing?"
"We're sleeping in your room."
"I'm a wild sleeper."
"You couldn't hurt me even if you tried."
Since I was the one who brought up sleeping together, I figured I couldn't just kick him out. After thinking it over, I agreed.
I'd never actually shared a bed with a guy before, so at first, it felt kind of awkward.
But snuggled up in his arms, I felt all warm and safe.
It almost tricked me into thinking he actually liked me, so I got used to it pretty quickly.
Half-asleep, I felt him kiss my forehead.
I mumbled in protest, and he just let out a chuckle.
I guess, at the very least, he was into me physically.
