Chapter 1
I used to be an airhead—all looks, zero brains, a total drama queen.
Before Dad died, he made sure I had a husband who could actually take care of me.
I was convinced David Carter didn't love me, so I threw tantrums and caused scenes until he finally agreed to divorce me.
After we split, David built a business empire from scratch and married his childhood sweetheart. He won at everything.
Meanwhile, I was stuck in a dead-end job making barely a thousand bucks a month, pulling endless all-nighters until I literally worked myself to death.
Then somehow, I woke up back on the day I demanded the divorce. And there I was again, jabbing my finger in his face.
"I can't stand you anymore! Man up and sign the damn papers!"
*****
The words that had caused the tragedy flew out before I could stop them.
I nearly burst into tears right there.
Why couldn't I keep my stupid mouth shut?
David froze, then let out a cold, mocking laugh.
"Divorce? You can't even support yourself."
I'd had zero skills but sky-high pride and a hair-trigger temper.
In my past life, those words would've set me off instantly.
"That's none of your business! Plenty of guys would line up to take care of me! Sign, or you're just pathetic!"
But remembering how miserable I'd been after the divorce, I wanted to slap myself for being such an idiot.
Instantly, I threw myself into his arms, playfully tapping his chest with my fists, voice dripping with sweetness.
"Baby, I was just kidding. I don't actually want a divorce."
Leaving? Not now. Not until he was rich—and I took my share.
David looked at me with disgust, then pushed my head away.
"If you want a divorce, let's do it. You're making me sick."
Tempered by a lifetime of hard knocks, I no longer had that short fuse.
So instead of getting mad, I clung to him tighter, my voice even sweeter.
"I already told you I don't want a divorce. Why are you being so mean?"
David's face twisted with disgust. He hesitated, then grabbed the back of my neck and shoved me aside.
"Fine. No divorce. Just spare me the drama."
I threw up my hands in a big heart shape, beaming at him.
"Thanks, honey! Love you!"
Then I blew him a kiss.
David just turned and walked away.
Haunted by the pain of my past life, I clung to him the moment I saw someone I could finally rely on.
I trailed after David.
He glanced back, confused. "I'm just taking a shower. Why are you following me?"
I snapped out of it, embarrassed, and gave him an awkward smile.
"Sorry. You go ahead."
Water ran in the bathroom.
Even though David and I had never actually slept together, I knew he had an incredible body—eight-pack abs and everything.
I'd died a virgin in my past life. But after hearing all the dirty stories from my older coworkers, I couldn't help feeling... curious.
Just thinking about David's sculpted physique made my cheeks flush and my heart race.
Ten minutes later, David walked out wearing nothing but a towel around his waist.
I tried to look casual while checking him out from head to toe.
He looked even more ripped than I remembered—and honestly, he was seriously well-endowed.
Total catch.
My heart was racing, and my body was buzzing with anticipation.
My stare must've been too obvious, because David looked at me like I'd lost my mind before heading to the guest room.
Seriously, how could I have ever been mad at a guy like that?
Thinking about how clueless I'd been, I wanted to kick myself.
Watching that door slam shut, I made up my mind—I was having him tonight, no matter what.
