"Aren't we being a bit too unfair? After all, she really did cure our illnesses..." someone muttered.

His voice was low, but everyone picked up on the uneasy note in the air.

Predatory, hostile stares immediately locked onto him.

The man flinched, trying to backtrack, "I just... I'm worried we might get..."

He clamped his lips shut, not daring to utter the word "karma."

He was afraid of tempting fate, worried that if he said it out loud, it might actually come true.

No one else would let him finish that word, either.
