Before clocking out, Charles showed up at logistics.

Right in front of everyone, he grabbed my wrist.

"You fell today? Why didn't you tell me?" he asked.

I looked at him. "Why would I? So you could go comfort Sophie and tell her, 'Don't take that crazy woman seriously'?"

His eyes reddened at the rims as he stared at me.

"Emily, please don't do this to me," he pleaded. "I admit I messed up. But Sophie's pregnant, so I can't walk away from her.

"Just give me some time. After she gives birth, I'll make arrangements..."

I asked, "And then?"
