Chapter 2
Half an hour later, Dorothy kept calling me.
When I blocked her number without a second thought, I got a call from my father.
His voice, a bit anxious, came through. "What's with your mom? Why did she cut off my credit card all of a sudden? Dorothy can't pay at the restaurant now."
I pretended I knew nothing. "I had no idea. Dad, why don't you just call Mom instead?"
I bet my father wouldn't dare because my mother was actually the chief financial officer of the company.
My father was the chairman of the company, but in fact, it was my mother, who controlled the money.
My father could only persuade me in a soft voice.
"Hattie, Dorothy just entered the company, and you embarrassed her like that. Isn't this slapping me in the face? Hurry up and talk to your mother."
I pretended to be helpless and said, "Dad, it's not that I don't want to help. You also know that Mom, as the chief financial officer, monitors your credit card. You see that on the first day Dorothy came to the company, she bought all the co-workers coffee and dinner. The meal cost 90 thousand dollars. Mom must have felt something off and stopped the card. It's normal."
My father hung up the phone angrily and rushed to the restaurant to pay the bill.
Well, that was great.
The chairman, Desmond Greene, personally came to help Dorothy settle the bill, which further confirmed the news that Dorothy was his daughter.
Dorothy came through the door with a triumphant look, holding my father's arm.
As soon as she entered, she yelled at me, "Hattie, you do have tricks up your sleeve. You let your mother stop my card even though you knew I was inviting the colleagues to dinner. Are you deliberately embarrassing me?
"You're just jealous that I'm more popular than you, and everyone likes me, right? A scheming bitch like you doesn't deserve to be Dad's child at all."
"Who is this bastard, daring to spout nonsense here? My daughter doesn't deserve it? Do you think you deserve it then?"
A voice came from the door, and the assistant helped my mother drag the suitcase back.
Dorothy wanted to talk back but was stopped by my father.
Seeing that, my father quickly smiled and stepped forward to hold my mother and said, "Darling, why did you suddenly come back? Aren't you busy with business abroad?"
My mother gave him a cold look.
She sneered, "If I didn't come back early, I'm afraid my daughter would have been walked all over by some bastard here!"
At dinner, Dorothy took my seat and insisted on sitting next to my father.
My mother glared at her and scolded loudly, "You rude bastard, who do you think you are to sit in this seat?"
Dorothy's face was flushed with anger.
She looked at my father with grievance, hoping he could stand up for her.
Unexpectedly, my father just told her, "Dorothy, Christina is right. Just be good and move aside! We're family here. It doesn't matter where you sit."
My mother was unhappy to hear that.
She snorted, "Cut the crap. I only have one daughter in my life. This bastard girl is not my family."
My father was a little embarrassed and served my mother a shrimp to soothe her.
"Darling, don't take it to heart. She's just a child. Here, try the shrimp!"
But my mother pounded the table and thundered, her tone filled with disdain.
"I have no appetite to eat at the same table as this bastard coming from nowhere. Hattie, let's go out to eat!"
And then my mother yanked me up into her Rolls-Royce.
I hugged her happily and said with joy written all over my face. "Mom, why did you come back ahead of schedule?"
My mother patted my head and said with red eyes, "Hattie, if I didn't come back early, I could only watch you be framed by that scheming bastard."
Only then did I realize that my mother had also traveled back in time.
Dorothy was the illegitimate daughter of my father and his first crush, Jane Knapp.
Before marrying my father, my mother didn't know about Jane.
At that time, Jane was already pregnant. To piggyback on my mother's wealth and power, my father abandoned Jane without hesitation.
But for so many years, what my father had been thinking about was still his first crush, Jane.
He secretly sent money to Jane and Dorothy, and even sent Dorothy to study abroad.
Therefore, Dorothy had an elegant and noble temperament in her.
She didn't look like someone who had suffered at all.
My mother found out about Jane by checking my father's bank account details.
But my mother was a love-struck fool back then, so when my father said he wanted to bring his illegitimate daughter back, my mother agreed.
Unexpectedly, Jane was only pretending to be dead all these years.
My father had fooled us all around.
After my mother and I died, my father directly brought Jane back to the house.
The three of them lived happily ever after.
