Chapter 1
Everyone in the Pack said my Alpha parents pampered me like crazy.
But they had no idea what was really going on.
I couldn't eat meat, and I had to keep my emotions in check. I couldn't get too happy or too sad, because any mood swings would affect my health.
It happened unexpectedly during the month of my sixteenth birthday. One day, Mom brought me a Coke, the drink I'd been dying to try for years. I lost consciousness after drinking it.
When I woke up, I found myself in the hospital.
My stomach was wrapped in thick bandages, I was running a fever, and my head felt fuzzy. But my beloved parents were nowhere to be seen. It was as if they'd disappeared from my world.
Those sixteen years of pampering suddenly felt like nothing but a dream.
Half-awake, I caught a glimpse of Mom bringing a girl over to my bedside.
"Thank goodness Iris is awake. The surgery went perfectly. Aylin, all those sixteen years of careful nurturing finally paid off," Mom said, her face glowing with satisfaction.
I couldn't help but scoff inwardly.
Well, wasn't that just perfect? Now the three of you could finally be a happy family together.
After the surgery, the hospital director himself escorted my parents as they wheeled Iris, my younger sister, to her room.
Dad was the leader of the Lycan Realm, and Mom was his Luna.
When she was pregnant with us twins, a prophecy foretold that the Moon Goddess would return through her unborn children.
But just as she was about to give birth, our Pack came under a major attack. A witch cursed her, forcing her into premature labor.
That day, thunder and lightning crashed outside. After hours of pain, Mom gave birth to me, a healthy daughter. But my sister, who came right after, was frail and missing two organs.
She had to stay in the hospital for three whole months before she finally made it.
But my younger sister was born with silver hair and a crescent moon in her eyes, which in the wolf clan was a sign of the Moon Goddess's reincarnation.
From the moment she arrived, she was the center of attention in the Pack. Everyone said her weakness was because she was carrying the Moon Goddess's power.
The nurse pushed my bed along, her eyes following my parents as they walked Iris into another room. "Family of bed twelve, please come over for the doctor's instructions."
I weakly raised my arm toward my parents, desperately hoping they would turn around and look at me, just like before, when they used to care about my health so much.
But all that remained for me were their backs, fading further and further away.
Dad pretended not to hear, while Mom kept her eyes fixed on Iris as she was wheeled into the room, replying from a distance with clear impatience. "Is this really the standard of the wolf clan's hospital staff?
"Just take care of her and keep her alive, that's all that matters. Right now, nothing is more important than Iris."
With that, she disappeared into the room without another word.
The nurse let out a sigh and gently pushed me into the room, clearly resigned to the situation. She explained the post-surgery instructions while I was still half-conscious, reminding me to press the call button by the bed if I felt unwell.
I gave a weak nod, and she looked at me with genuine pity in her eyes, speaking in a soft voice. "When I go check on your sister, I'll remind your parents to look in on you. Just try to rest for now."
I forced a smile, but deep down, I knew my parents would never come to see me again.
Iris was recognized as the Moon Goddess's reincarnation from the moment she arrived. She was frail, but stunningly beautiful, with silver hair and a crescent moon shining in her eyes, marks unique to the Moon Goddess's reincarnation.
But I was just a healthy, ordinary wolf. For years, my parents strictly controlled my diet to keep me in perfect health.
I thought "protecting my sister" meant staying healthy so I could keep her safe and undisturbed. It turned out it meant sacrificing my organs. They took not just a kidney, but my liver as well.
