The evening stretched on interminably, the hum of conversation in my dining room growing more tedious by the minute. These business dinners were necessary, but tonight I found myself increasingly distracted, my attention repeatedly drawn to Nora as she moved quietly through the room with Lily on her hip.

"I must say, Anthony, it's rather unconventional having the nanny present at a business function," remarked Gerald Wilson, one of our more traditional board members. His voice carried just enough to draw attention from those nearby, his eyebrow raised in that particular way that suggested disapproval masked as casual observation.
