Chapter 2
I asked, "Which room should I stay in?"
My indifferent tone pierced the warm scene, Lois's kind look froze on her face, and Zachary was obviously dissatisfied.
He said, 'The room on the second floor is not cleaned, so you should stay on the first floor for now.'
He tilted his head, thinking he was being generous to me.
But I laughed sarcastically. "Your rooms are all on the second floor, but you want me to live in a room for servants?
"If you brought me back just to satisfy your hypocritical kindness, or you want a free nanny, then there's no need.
"I was fine with the Romero family, and I don't have the habit of being a maid for others."
Lois said angrily, "What are you talking about? The Garrett family's child will naturally not be raised by other families!
"Don't you just want a room on the second floor? Why don't you just say it directly? You're a bit coy."
Daphne said in her heart, 'It's all my fault. Polly must think that I occupied her room. It's fine. I can move out of my room.
'I just don't want Polly to be upset with Mom and Dad.'
She lowered her head as if she was hurt, and her eyes were so wet that she could cry in the next second. Everyone else in the Garrett family felt heartbroken after seeing that.
Like an outsider, I watched their performances with cold eyes.
A small backpack contained all my luggage. Inside were a school uniform, a comb, toothpaste and soap, and a worn-out wallet.
The Garrett family obviously didn't take me to heart. They didn't even prepare clothes and pajamas for me.
The guest room on the second floor was indeed much better than the guest room on the first floor.
I felt that no wonder the servants of the Garrett family in my previous life didn't take me to heart. They always asked me to do all kinds of work.
It turned out that from the beginning, they could tell that the Garrett family didn't treat me as one of them at all. Only I was foolishly happy to reunite with them.
Looking at the tidy room, I buried myself in the blanket and took a deep breath.
When it was time for dinner, I was the last one to come downstairs.
"Polly," Daphne called out cautiously.
I ignored her and took my seat.
Zachary threw his fork down angrily. "Daphne is greeting you. Why the long face?"
Jordan looked at Zachary with a warning look. "Enough. Let's eat."
Daphne handed me a small cake and said, "Polly, this is my favorite cake. I knew you were coming, so I spent three hours making it. Please try it."
Her face was full of anticipation, but she thought, 'Although Polly hates me, I really like her.
'My hand was cut by a knife when making this cake. Polly will definitely like it, right?'
Zachary couldn't help but look at her delicate wrist. Then, he saw a piece of gauze, and he was angry and distressed.
He said to me, "Hurry up and take it. Daphne has put so much effort into this!"
I chose to eat some vegetables in silence.
Zachary looked at Daphne's injured look and pushed me angrily. "Do you hate Daphne?"
This push caught me off guard and directly threw me to the ground.
A trace of guilt flashed in Zachary's eyes, as if he didn't expect me to be so weak.
I stood up nonchalantly. "Sorry, I'm allergic to mangoes."
Lois looked up at me in a complicated manner, unable to express her feelings.
She was also allergic to mangoes, but both Zachary and Daphne love this cake.
Although my complexion was sallow and my cheekbones bulged out, she felt that my features looked exactly like when she was young.
Lois frowned and said, "Why do you only eat vegetables? Have more meat."
She made a gesture to pick up some pulled pork for me, and Daphne's smug expression froze.
