Chapter 3
After contemplating for a moment, I instructed Marianna, my Beta, to ensure the pack's security footage was backed up. Hanging up the phone, my gaze settled on the gift box that arrived today—a Rolex watch. Killian Black, the Alpha of the Black Moon Pack, had admired this watch at the last grand trade event, but he deemed it too extravagant and didn’t buy it. I secretly purchased it for him, intending to present it at the pack’s anniversary celebration in three days. However, I realized that gift was no longer necessary; he hadn’t bought it because he was planning to spend his resources on Veronica Jones instead. In hindsight, my pity for him seemed laughably naive.
Collecting my thoughts, I began packing my belongings to leave. Just as I was maneuvering my luggage through the doorway, I unexpectedly encountered Killian, returning to the packhouse with the fragile-looking Veronica in his arms.
I sensibly stepped aside to let them pass, observing as Killian escorted her directly to the guest bedroom. With a touch of uncertainty in his voice, he said, "Veronica’s sick. I didn’t feel right leaving her alone."
"I brought her here for the night. You’re okay with that, right?" he asked, his Alpha tone brooking no argument.
I forced a smile, maintaining my composure, "I'm fine with it. She can have both you and the room."
Killian paused momentarily, struggling to grasp my meaning, while Veronica, her face pale, quickly adopted a tearful demeanor.
"Luna Elsie, please don’t be upset with me. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have come," she murmured, her voice trembling with practiced fragility.
"Alpha Killian, I'll just head back to my own place..." she continued, making a dramatic attempt to leave and stumbling in the process.
Witnessing this, Killian promptly lifted her into his arms and carried her back to the room. "Veronica, don’t leave!"
"This packhouse isn’t yours to dictate over, Luna. If I say you sleep here, then you will!" he asserted, his Alpha tone laced with authority.
Listening to Killian's unreasonable demands, I felt nothing but profound sorrow. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Veronica flash a smug grin at me.
Avoiding further entanglement with the pair, I grabbed my suitcase and stormed out.
Unexpectedly, Killian pursued me, gripping my arm.
He lowered his voice to an angry whisper, "What are you doing, Luna? Are you really going to leave like this?"
"Veronica’s unwell, and you’re just giving her the cold shoulder..."
Before he could continue his lecture, I cut him off with an impassive expression. "I’m not. I simply find the thought of living here with you two intolerable."
Killian was taken aback for a moment, and I used the opportunity to wrench free from his grasp. Suddenly, a noise came from inside the packhouse, like the thud of Veronica falling.
A flicker of concern crossed his face, and he didn’t try to stop me anymore. Instead, he reacted angrily to my frankness and shot back bitterly.
"Fine, leave then! Think about your actions and return once you realize you’re wrong!"
With that, he stormed back inside, slamming the door shut in frustration.
This time, I didn’t create a scene or turn back to plead with him. I simply hurried away.
Deciding to let go of Killian Black marked the end of this six-year mate bond.
I sought refuge at my friend Dulce’s place. As a Gamma warrior, she had just returned from a patrol and was eager to chat over coffee about the unfolding drama.
Upon hearing the full story, she was so angered she contemplated confronting them herself.
Observing the packhouse footage on my phone, I noted that Killian hadn’t left the guest bedroom since entering it. Calmly, I sipped my coffee, reassuring Dulce to be patient.
Everything Killian and Veronica owe me, I intend to reclaim in due time.
