Instead of the pain I was bracing for, a scream rang out.

I opened my eyes just in time to see Lilly go flying from a savage kick, crashing hard onto the ground.

Gunnar was standing protectively in front of me, his back shielding me, radiating pure, icy danger.

He growled, "Who the hell gave you the guts to lay a finger on what's mine?"

Lilly was shaking, scrambling up from the ground and bolting out of there without even looking back. The other girls scattered like rats.

Only Gunnar and I were left in the stables.
