Chapter 3
However, Eden never came to this room to comfort her.
Later, Eden felt thirsty and got up to get some water.
But when he turned around, he was startled to see Elvira standing right in front of him, clutching a knife.
She'd been standing there for ages.
Eden was already fast asleep, but he was still clutching his phone, video chatting with Claire.
Elvira wondered how much he loved Claire that he couldn't sleep without seeing her face.
Her chest tightened, the pain so sharp that tears welled up in her eyes once again.
But in the darkness, Eden couldn't see the tears streaming down her face.
Or maybe he saw her tears and just chose to ignore them.
Elvira gave Eden a mocking look.
Eden didn't want to disturb Claire, so he hung up.
"Eden, you once said that if either of us ever betrayed the other, we'd die for it!" Elvira said coldly.
As soon as she finished speaking, the knife was suddenly snatched from her hand.
The next second, there was a sickening squelch.
Eden had stabbed himself in the thigh with Elvira's knife.
Blood spurted out, staining her pajamas red.
His face went pale. "Elvira, I'm not divorcing you. You'll always be Mrs. Becker.
"I'm the one at fault. Please, don't make things hard for her."
Eden was later rushed to the hospital.
The moment Claire got the news, she dropped everything and rushed to the hospital.
"Elvira, this is my fault. Please, I'm begging you, don't hurt Eden!" Claire sobbed.
Claire dropped to her knees, tears streaming down her face as she pleaded with Elvira to forgive them, begging her not to blame Eden.
They looked just like a pair of tragic lovers, each shouldering the blame for the other.
Elvira wanted to slap Claire several times, but she eventually stopped herself.
But the blood on her hands felt scalding, as if her heart was set ablaze.
Her expression hardened as she said coldly, "Get lost."
Elvira got up to leave, but Claire ran after her.
Claire grabbed Elvira's arm, refusing to let her go.
"Elvira, you can't leave. Eden's still in surgery. Even if you're angry, you can't just abandon him now!" Claire pleaded.
Claire's grip was so strong that it actually hurt Elvira.
Just as Elvira was about to shake her off, a car suddenly shot out from around the corner, speeding straight toward Claire.
When Eden found out Claire had been in a car accident, he didn't say a single word.
He just told his assistant to bring his stuff and a change of clothes from home to the hospital.
Later, Elvira heard that, even with his own injuries, Eden was at Claire's bedside around the clock, never leaving her side while she remained unconscious.
Elvira only found out about it while she was out drinking with business partners, representing the Becker Group.
Everyone was laughing at her.
Elvira drank herself sick, her stomach burning with pain. When she finally stumbled home, she found Eden sitting on the couch, his expression cold and unreadable, just waiting for her.
Elvira looked ghostly pale, sweat soaking through her clothes. She was in no shape for a confrontation at that moment.
But Eden suddenly spoke up, his voice cold and accusing. "Elvira, I told you that Claire will never take your place. So why can't you just leave her alone?
"She's still unconscious in the hospital, and you're out there eating and drinking..."
Elvira's face darkened instantly.
But before she could get a word out, Eden's gaze zeroed in on her, sharp and predatory.
"The pastor at Erlands Church is said to work miracles. You need to go there and atone for your sins," Eden said coldly.
Before his words had even faded, the front door burst open and his bodyguards stormed in, grabbing Elvira and pinning her down without hesitation.
Elvira's eyes widened in shock and fury. "Eden, have you lost your mind? You'd really do this to me because of her?"
Eden completely ignored her, acting as if he hadn't heard a word.
With a cold command, he said, "Take Mrs. Becker away. Until Claire wakes up, she's not allowed to leave Erlands Church."
Elvira's phone was snatched away. With nothing but her high heels on, Elvira was hauled up the mountain by the bodyguards.
The pastor whom Eden mentioned barely spared Elvira a glance, her face utterly devoid of emotion.
"Evil deeds bring evil consequences, Mrs. Becker. Only after you apologize 99 times will you prove your sincerity and remorse," the pastor said.
