Chapter 3
I was not going to sit around and wait for Tony to come knocking.
After blocking him, I left immediately.
I needed points and money. First of all, I had to survive in this city.
[Temporary task detected: Delivery.
[Task: Deliver the designated package to the Sky Suite at the Nightshade Club before 10 PM tonight.
[Reward: 100 points and 1500 dollars cash.
[Accept?]
"Accept." I didn't hesitate.
I knew the Nightshade Club. It was the most exclusive private club in Gheimaskar. It was members only, with tight security. Normal people could not just walk in.
In my previous life, Sandra ended up there and connected with a powerful person who helped her make a comeback.
That person's last name was Massy.
The system told me to pick up the package from a locker at a convenience store. When I got it, I saw that it was a heavy metal box. There was no label or logo.
On the way to the Nightshade Club, I used my phone to check out short-term rentals near the urban area.
I couldn't stay here anymore. Tony would definitely find this place.
At 9:30 PM, I stood in front of the Nightshade Club's glittering, lavish entrance.
A security guard blocked my way.
"Sorry, this is a private club. I'll need to see your membership card."
I pulled out my phone and dialed the number the system provided.
The call connected almost instantly, and before I could say anything, a man's voice that was cold and authoritative came through the line.
"You got the package?"
"I'm at the door. Can't get in," I replied, keeping it brief.
"Wait." He hung up immediately.
Less than a minute later, a man in a black suit stepped out. He gave me a quick once-over, his eyes sharp and assessing.
"Follow me," he said.
I followed him through the opulent lobby and into a private elevator.
The elevator went straight to the top floor.
The hallway was covered in thick carpet. My footsteps made no sound at all.
The man in black led me to a door and knocked.
"Mr. Massy, she's here," he said.
The door opened.
The man who opened the door was tall, wearing a simple black shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows, his muscular forearms on display and a watch that looked like it cost a fortune.
He stood with the light behind him, so I couldn't see his face. I felt an intimidating vibe radiating from him.
He was Dwight Massy.
In my previous life, Sandra schemed her way into his circle. He was a guy with serious connections and a reputation for being ruthless.
Sandra used to brag to me that Dwight was head over heels for her. He'd even take down the Duncan family's old business enemies for her sake.
But as far as I remembered, he never ended up marrying her.
"The package," Dwight said, his voice low and icy as he held out his hand.
I handed him the metal box.
He took it, opened it right in front of me, and checked inside. It was filled with precision components I couldn't make sense of.
After confirming everything was in order, he pulled an envelope from his pocket and tossed it to me.
"You can go now," he said.
I gave the envelope a quick squeeze and knew that there was exactly 1500 dollars in it.
"Thank you, Mr. Massy," I said.
I turned and walked away without looking back, no hesitation.
As I was about to reach the elevator, Dwight's voice called out from behind me. "Wait."
I stopped and turned to look at him.
He was leaning against the doorframe, the light outlining his features. He had a ridiculously handsome face, but so cold it felt almost untouchable.
His eyes dropped to my faded, washed-out canvas shoes, and he raised an eyebrow.
"What's your name?" he asked.
"Andrea Duncan," I replied.
He rolled the name around for a moment, his eyes flickering with a hint of something I couldn't quite read.
"The Duncan family's adopted daughter?" he said.
My heart sank.
He actually knew who I was.
