Myles called on a Wednesday afternoon, while I was standing at my office window watching a delivery truck try to parallel park on 57th.

I let it ring twice. Then I picked up.

"Eileen." His voice had that careful warmth to it. The kind that takes practice. "I've been thinking about you."
