Chapter 3

Sometimes I'd stare at the ceiling for an entire day.

One afternoon, I stood on the balcony, looking down.

The apartment was eighteen floors up.

It'd be over fast.

It wouldn't even hurt.

I gripped the railing and stood there for a long time.

But when I woke up, I was in the hospital.

The old lady next door scolded me, her voice full of pain and disappointment. "You're so young. Why would you want to end your life?"

Then she said I was lucky.

I'd passed out from low blood sugar before I could actually climb over the railing.
