Chapter 6

I knocked.

A few seconds later, the door opened.

Rachel stood there, fully dressed. She froze when she saw me, but the

panic on her face disappeared almost as quickly as it came.

Daniel was behind her.

The moment he saw me, his whole body went still.

I didn't say anything at first.

There were two used wineglasses on the table. One of Rachel's earrings

lay on the carpet near the bed.

And on the nightstand was Daniel's wedding ring.

He had taken it off.

Suddenly, I understood what Rachel had meant when she asked, "You're

really going to leave…
