Chapter 6

The gold-embossed invitation arrives at Shadowpine three weeks before the Lycan Ball, and I know because Sullivan shows me the copy he sent. His handwriting is elegant, deliberate: 'Alpha Christian and Guest.' Not 'Alpha Christian and Luna.' Just 'Guest.'

'He'll notice,' I say, running my fingers over the raised lettering.

Sullivan's smile is sharp. 'That's the point, little wolf.'

He's also sent a separate note to Christian's Beta, mentioning that trade agreements are 'under review.' It's a warning shot, subtle but unmistakable. The Lycan King is watching, and Shadowpine's protection is no longer guaranteed.

I should feel guilty. I don't.
