Chapter 6
Michael snapped back to reality, his voice icy.
He said, "When did I ever say I was going to marry you?"
Sophie suddenly stiffened, lifting her head from his chest, her face a mix of lingering happiness and fresh shock.
"You were willing to hurt yourself just to turn against Charlotte for me. And you even let me get revenge for our baby. You turned a blind eye when I—" Sophie's voice trembled, her words trailing off.
Michael shoved her away.
"Sophie, shut up," he snapped.
He was annoyed. He didn't want Sophie to air his dirty laundry.
"Watch your mouth and get out!" Michael barked.
Sophie's face went ghostly pale. "Michael?"
"Get out," Michael barked, whipping around to face her. The icy glare in his eyes made her freeze, terrified.
She bit her lip in frustration, but didn't dare say another word. She turned and left.
This was wrong.
It was not supposed to go this way.
He'd let her do what he couldn't bring himself to do, get rid of that bastard child Charlotte was carrying.
He hated Charlotte.
Not just because she killed his first child, but because she made him a laughingstock by cheating on him.
So even if she hurt Charlotte, as long as she cried and begged, he'd always take her side.
He spoiled her, indulged her, and she was sure that sooner or later, she'd be the real Mrs. Quinn.
They'd both signed the divorce papers.
She'd waited so long for this, but now he was telling her to get out.
That was unacceptable.
Charlotte was staring out the window, lost in thought, when Sophie pushed the door open and walked in.
"Charlotte, you still look so peaked," Sophie sneered, her voice dripping with malice.
There was no hiding the spite in her tone.
She sneered, "But I guess that's to be expected. After losing all that filthy blood, you really need to take care of yourself now."
Charlotte looked at Sophie, a flicker of confusion crossing her face.
Hadn't Michael sent Sophie away to protect her?
This worked out well.
She wouldn't even have to go looking for Sophie.
"You're not welcome here. Get out," Charlotte said coldly.
Sophie couldn't care less. She sprawled out in the chair by the bed, crossing her legs with a smug air, as if she owned the whole room.
Sophie sneered, "Surprised to see me? Even after I got rid of your baby, he still can't stay away from me.
"I know you won't let me off the hook, but too bad for you, Michael's always on my side.
"Do you even know what people are saying about you? They're saying you lost your mind and ended up killing your own kid."
A chill went through Charlotte. Michael was actually pinning what he and Sophie had done on her.
They'd known each other for ten years, and Charlotte knew Michael was stubborn, ruthless, but always took responsibility for his actions.
He thought the baby she was carrying wasn't his, so he turned on her.
That was just like him.
But she'd never seen him sink this low before.
Charlotte looked at Sophie with utter disdain.
"You really think Michael's going to cover for you forever?" Charlotte sneered, her voice icy and mocking.
A flicker of panic flashed in Sophie's eyes.
But she quickly regained her composure.
"Charlotte, if you dare touch me, Michael will make you pay," Sophie shot back, her voice trembling with forced bravado.
"Oh yeah? Let's just wait and see," Charlotte said, turning away and acting like Sophie wasn't even there.
Charlotte figured she could take her time with Sophie, maybe she'd just let Michael deal with her personally.
Just imagining that scene made Charlotte feel a surge of satisfaction.
Sophie was stung by Charlotte's dismissive attitude.
Sophie sneered, "Charlotte, what do you even have left to brag about? At the end of the day, you're just a complete failure.
"Still can't wrap your head around it, can you? Michael wanted a kid so badly that he was ready to turn against you for the one I was carrying.
"So why, when it was your turn, did he just stand there and watch, and even let me get rid of the baby in your belly?"
