Chapter 4

"Melantha, I can give the marrow back. But you have to answer three questions." He looked at me, then suddenly frowned. "What's wrong with you?"

I raised my hand and touched fresh blood from my nose.

"What's happening to you?" For a moment, his expression almost seemed panicked.

Dizziness washed over me again. I forced myself to stand straight, using every bit of strength to say, "Evan, my mother is dead. Are you happy now?"

He looked stunned.

Tears mixed with blood streamed down my face. My body felt like lead. My legs gave way, and I fell straight back.
