Chapter 3
"No way. I just had a feeling. How would I have taken a test already?" Sadie said.
I took a deep breath. "So what made you suddenly think you might be pregnant?"
"Didn't you see? My husband's cheating on me. He paraded his side chick right in front of me, hugged her, and left without a care about my feelings. And we just signed the divorce papers," Sadie said matter-of-factly.
Come on, just thinking about that divorce agreement gave me a headache.
"What does any of that have to do with being pregnant?" I asked.
"In stories like this, I'm totally the tragic lead. This is exactly when I'm supposed to find out I'm pregnant," Sadie muttered absentmindedly, browsing through doctor info on her phone.
Suddenly, she screamed, "This is the one!"
"What's so impressive about this doctor?" I asked, getting tired of her antics.
Sadie shoved the doctor's profile in my face.
I scanned it from top to bottom. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, except that this gynecologist was a guy.
"He's so handsome. I bet he's the second male lead," Sadie gushed. She booked an appointment right away, her face lighting up with excitement.
Her logic was making my head spin. I plopped down on the couch, ready to ignore her.
But Sadie wouldn't let it go. "I booked an appointment for tomorrow. Come with me, okay?"
I pulled my hand out of her arms. "I'm not going."
"Pleeease. Going alone is so sad," she whined, throwing herself on me and shaking me so hard I got dizzy. I had no choice but to agree.
Honestly, if she hadn't looked out for me back in school, I wouldn't even bother with her now. She'd completely lost it.

The next day, Sadie and I met at the hospital entrance.
Sadie, who thought she might be pregnant, bounced over to me in a pair of stilettos, her makeup perfectly done.
"Careful, you might trip," I said, stepping forward to steady her anyway.
"Don't worry. I know what I'm doing," Sadie replied.
Then we headed inside.
But as soon as we walked through the doors, Sadie started acting all fragile, practically draping herself over me.
"What's wrong? I thought you knew what you're doing.'" I couldn't help but mock her.
"I'm pregnant, remember? Of course you have to take care of me," Sadie replied, leaning into me even harder.
We'd timed it perfectly, so our turn came soon.
We walked into the office, and I found the doctor, Thomas Parker, looked every bit as handsome as his profile picture.
The moment Sadie saw Thomas, her eyes sparkled.
"Is something bothering you?" Thomas asked, glancing at Sadie.
"Dr. Parker, I think I might be pregnant," Sadie replied, putting on a tiny, sweet voice.
"Have you taken a test?"
"Nope, I don't know how."
I had to turn my head away. I was this close to rolling my eyes watching Sadie act all weak and clueless.
Thomas finally looked up at Sadie, frowning. "You don't know how to take a test?"
"Nope. It's my first time. I'm totally lost."
"Then I'll prescribe a pregnancy test for you."
I could tell Thomas was all business. But the second we walked out of his office, Sadie turned to me, bouncing with excitement. "He's definitely the second lead."
"How did you tell?" I asked, shocked.
"Didn't you notice? We walked in together, but he only asked me what was wrong. That means he only had eyes for me from the moment we stepped in," Sadie said.
Wasn't that because you were clinging to me, acting like you were not feeling good?
"Whatever," I said, "just go take the test in the restroom."
I pushed her into the restroom, not thinking much of the whole thing.
After all, getting pregnant wasn't exactly easy.
About ten minutes later, Sadie came out of the restroom looking totally out of it, her eyes vacant.
