Chapter 1
After spending tens of millions at an auction, I finally got my hands on a stunning gemstone necklace. Little did I know, my husband, Alexander Grant, would give it away to his secretary, Emily Lane.
Emily wasted no time flaunting it on her social media: [The little kitten now has her master's tag. She'll stay loyal forever.]
My assistant quickly sent me the screenshot.
In the picture, Emily was all dressed up in a maid's uniform. She'd taken my necklace and split it into two.
One part was put around her cat's neck, and the other was wrapped around her own ankle.
Fuming, I shot a message to Alexander, demanding an explanation. But it was like sending a text into a black hole—no reply.
Half an hour later, I decided to strike back on the internet.
I posted a photo with a snarky caption: [No surprise that an old-stuff-turned chicken coop can make even the low-class hens look fancy.]
In the photo, I'd smashed every single antique in Alexander's room and used the pieces to build a chicken coop.
Less than ten minutes after I posted, I checked the comments. There were already over a hundred.
[Holy crap! Those are real antiques! All smashed? Who was dumb enough to make Mrs. Grant mad?]
[Damn, that's savage! Smashed millions worth of antiques just to blow off steam.]
[Now THAT is real high society!]
With a faint smile, I delved into the comments, thoroughly engrossed.
Out of the blue, Alexander's name flashed up at the top of the screen.
Finally, the dead-quiet bloke was back in action.
I nonchalantly answered the call.
Instantly, his booming voice blasted through the receiver. "Vivian, what stunt are you pulling this time!
"Those antiques are worth a fortune, and you don't get that?"
I let out a little laugh and shot back, "Me pulling a stunt? Alexander, that's a real knee-slapper.
"What about that gem necklace I bought? You just gave it away like it was nothing!
"And then some person takes it apart and uses it as a cat collar or an anklet.
"Guess that's your latest hobby, huh, Mr. Grant?
"Seems you get a kick out of smashing up expensive things and putting them back together.
"So I figured I'd lend you a hand—smashed up your precious antiques and gave them a makeover.
"Check it out—doesn't that 'chicken coop' look fancy?"
Alexander was left speechless.
After a short silence, he stammered out an explanation, "Emily landed a huge deal for the company lately.
"The necklace was a bonus for her. I had no clue what she'd do with it."
I retorted, "Really? A bonus? Your right-hand man, Mark Chapman, has been with you through thick and thin. How many big deals has he brought in?
"Why haven't I seen you shell out like this for him?
"And besides!" I paused, my voice turning cold. "You're handing out my things just to make yourself look generous.
"Alexander, you've really mastered the art of double standards."
Alexander clammed up again.
I wasn't about to let him off the hook. "How'd she manage that big deal?
"Don't tell me she did it dressed up in a maid costume, kneeling on the floor and calling you 'master'?"
"Vivian!" His voice went up a few octaves. "Can you stop being so dirty-minded? There's nothing between me and Emily, alright? We're totally clean!"
"Totally clean?" I snorted, the sarcasm dripping from my voice.
That was the funniest thing I'd heard all day.
I asked, "Just because you two haven't hit the sheets, you call that 'innocent'? Is that how things go in your world, Alexander?"
"Vivian, I can't even with you!" Alexander snapped.
He was so frustrated, he just hung up on me without another word.
The smile on my face faded completely.
The Moore Family wasn't just rich—we were the real high society, the kind everyone else wanted to be.
As the sole daughter, I had been doted on by my parents like a precious gem since childhood.
Back in the day, the Grant family was merely a second-tier clan.
Eager to break into the exclusive core circle with the help of our family's extensive network, they presented their meticulously-groomed Alexander to me.
I must say, Alexander was a real charmer then. He was good-looking, talented, and treated me with the utmost tenderness and consideration.
Young and smitten, I agreed to this seemingly well-suited marriage.
After tying the knot, the Grant family got their wish. Hitching a ride on the Moore family's influence, they climbed the social ladder rapidly and became extremely successful.
In just a few years, the Grant family was even on the verge of outshining some long-established old-money families.
Maybe the power and fortune came too quickly.
Alexander started to forget the source of his current success.
He got so full of himself that he turned a blind eye to where his blessings originated.
Since he's so fond of keeping those sleazy "little kitten" on the side, well then, I'd give him a real wildcat!
