Chapter 6
Brianna was never one to take advantage of others.
"Alright, Brianna," I said. "Send me the address. I'm on my way."
It wasn't until I arrived at the venue that I realized how big this client of hers was.
A famous silver-spoon kid in Eldoria.
Brianna's eyes welled up with tears as she rushed to embrace me.
"Shania," she said. "Thank God you made it here. Tell you what, if I mess this up today, my career in this business is over."
The wedding was in full swing, packed with guests.
I was planning to take photos of the guests, but Brianna insisted on putting me in charge of the bride and groom on the excuse of my good skills.
The awfully pretty bride and the smoking-hot groom really made a perfect couple.
I just followed them all along. Even with no real photography skills, I could get stunning shots of them—they looked just like models from high-end fashion magazines.
The shooting process was quite pleasant, and I couldn't help but admire the stunning effects through my lens.
Suddenly, I felt the happiness Brianna had talked about.
Watching a couple in love promise forever, surrounded by their family's blessings, filled me with quiet joy.
For a moment, I felt like I was the bride.
In my old timeline, I never had a wedding ceremony because of Yelena.
It wasn't until today that I realized the wedding was so great.
No wonder all girls wanted a fantasy wedding so much.
As I followed the newlyweds to the last table, an icy gaze pierced through me like a sharp dagger.
I turned and locked eyes with Channing—his glare so venomous, with Yelena standing by his side.
All the guests here had come with their families.
The family Channing brought here was Yelena.
I froze for a split second, completely stunned—so shocked that the camera nearly slipped from my hands.
This baby of Brianna's was worth a fortune, and the photos inside mattered to her entire career.
I tried my best to steady myself so that the camera didn't drop to the floor.
Thankfully, this was the last table.
And I didn't think Channing had the guts to make a scene in front of such a big shot.
With leaden steps, I followed the newlyweds backstage.
I thought I had moved on.
However, seeing that jerk flatter with his mistress in public still shattered me inside.
"Shania, are you okay?" Brianna asked.
Realizing I was not in a good state, she came to take the camera quickly and then supported me.
"I'm so sorry, Shania," she said. "I had no idea that jerk Channing would show up, too.
"He's just unbelievable. How could he come to attend a wedding with another girl? Doesn't he know you two will get married soon?
"That two-faced, petty jerk never allows you to hang out with us. Yet here he is, hooking up with someone else behind your back."
Brianna was furious, but her words barely registered with me.
That night, I stayed at Brianna's place, too exhausted to think about that big meal.
It hit me all of a sudden—my so-called indifference was just a facade. Deep down, a part of me still had hope for Channing.
My chest ached with tightness, making it hard for me to breathe.
I then told Brianna about my plan to join a film crew in Tansara.
"Wow," she cheered. "Shania, I always knew you'd make it as a world-famous photographer. You'd better set off as soon as possible. And when you're famous, don't you forget me."
It seemed like Brianna just couldn't wait to drop me into the jungle in Tansara.
In her eyes, getting rid of that jerk and being a badass photographer was the best choice for me.
"Shania," she continued. "You're destined to go down in history. Jerks like Channing aren't even fit to lick your boots."
Brianna just kept comforting me.
However, her comfort worked the other way around. In my old timeline, I had devoted myself to that jerk and got nothing. If I did that again, the tragedy would happen again.
"Thank you, Brianna," I said.
Either in this timeline or the old one, she was always my friend. In the last few days of my life, Brianna often came to hang out with me. "Come on, bestie, you had a chance to shine. Alas, how could you be so confused at that time?" She just kept saying this, over and over again.
At that time, I was confused indeed, ending up old, penniless, and childless.
Were it not for Shania, I couldn't imagine how much more desolate my twilight years would have been.
Channing, on the other hand, thought he was already kind enough, giving me his prime years before 50. He sounded as if I were the one taking advantage.
That night at Brianna's place, I called Chris again to ask if I could join them earlier. I told her my lease was up and that renewing it would be a hassle.
Chris gave me the green light. She said some people were already there helping them with logistics.
Tears of joy streaming down my cheeks, I realized I could finally leave that pair of backstabbing lovers.
