"Emily, don't make a scene at the hospital," Edward said.

I nodded. "I won't." My voice came out so calm it didn't sound like mine.

Edward's brow knotted. "What's that supposed to mean?"

A nurse pushed a crash cart between us. I stepped aside and didn't answer.

The emergency room door opened, and the doctor pulled down his mask. "The patient's stable for now, but he can't take any more stress. Family, be careful with him."
