Chapter 7

On the way to the hospital, Darren was so focused on calming Lucy after the fight that he didn't notice Averie's cheek was bleeding until later.

When they arrived at the hospital, Darren ignored his own bleeding shoulder and insisted that the doctor treat Averie's facial injury first.

"The wedding is coming up soon. I can't let anything happen to Averie's face," he said. Then he turned to her and signed to explain, his eyes filled with guilt, "Sweetheart, this is my fault. I only stepped in for Lucy because she's my employee. Please don't be mad at me, okay?"
